You don't. Any fully synthetic of the same weight will work. IMHO, however, Mobil 1 is the best.

If price is the issue, check the discount clubs; it is cheaper there.

5qt jug is $40 at AutoZone and $25 at Walmart so that saves money. Keep a couple extra qts in the truck as these things use alot of oil.

Yeah, GM doesn't know what they are talking about. Just use whatever. Recycled oil would save you lots of money. </sarc>

I use the local farm and fleet labeled synthetic. Less than 1/2 the price of M1.

While I agree that you do not have to use Mobil 1, the engine oil you use must be within the following specifications:
5W30 (pending climatic conditions), Full Synthetic, API approved, meets GM4718M specification.
Other oils can potentially damage the engine over the long term and or void powertrain warranty.

    Good stuff, 08.

Saying that (synthetic) motor oils are all the same is like saying all gasolines (brands, tiers) are the same. They are definitely not. When one goes out and sinks a ton of $$$ in a vehicle, why would you then turn around and roll the dice (risk your money spent) on the lubricants used to maintain it in order to save a few bucks? There is miniscule cost/benefit in doing so.
