    Lake Cadillac question...removing taillight

So we bought the 04 and there is water in the jack area...this question is from my husband:

Did not see evidence of water from weatherstripping or welds underneath it. Noticed water spots on lift gate latch and striker area leading me to believe the leak coming from lift gate. It was not blue so I do not think it is the wiper fluid. Started looking at lift gate tail lamp and found passenger side bolt spins freely and will not come out. Seems taillamp is glued down so did not work too hard on removing it. Wondered if anyone has sealed around the red lamp to prevent water from entering that area? Not sure if it is the root cause. But still lookin. Any help appreciated. Thanks

You can also try getting in the back and get another to spray with a hose and see if water shows up, might get you looking in the right area.

Remove the little plastic body plugs on the bottom of the lift gate. When water gets in and you open the lift gate, the water runs through the connectors to the body and down to Lake Cadillac. And welcome to the club.

I miss Lake Cadillac. It's been almost three bone dry years and 54,000 miles since I discovered it, and the dealer squared it away. Not even the high winds and driving, heavy rains from Sandy penetrated!

GOOD THREAD BACK FROM THE DEAD!

I have this problem, I just looked under the lift gate. There are 3 very small black elongated oval pieces. Before I remove these, and probably break them off doing so, are these the correct pieces to remove?

I pulled the 3 tabs from the lift gate. My jack compartment still gets soaked every time it rains.

Do a leak test. Remove the rear hatch trim and compartment cover. With someone inside to watch and w/ hatch closed, flood with a garden hose starting on one side, about tail light high and very s.l.o.w.l.y move the hose higher until you see water coming in. Then you should know what to fix.
