Looking for 2004 SRX map DVD - failed. Who can help?

    Hi,

36 hours ago, I bought a very nice, low milage SRX - here in Germany. But without the disc. And here, in Germany, is absolutely no chance to get a DVD as spare part. Even worse, there is no download link for a 2004 or 2005 SRX DVD (Denso) :-(

Is anybody here, who can help?

    I need EUROPEAN maps...

    Thanx

Try the Toyota TNS310 ( Trafic) Plus South Europe 2010-2011 Ver.1.

ONLY THE VER.1 will work. Others I think they will never work

This will work with your cadillac with some limitations. It works with my 2006 SRX

    No voice guidance
no street names in the map

But At least you will be able to navigate

You may find some links in Internet

Is it worth a call to gmnavdisc.com and see if they can help you out, they have an update for the new system but maybe could help with the old system.

No chance, I tried EVERYTHING - eBay, GM, gmnavdisc.com etc... Even the official GM service in Germany can not offer any help.

    Volker,

I have recently purchased a 2005 Srx in the Netherlands. The dvd was missing and with much effort a new one was found in some depot in Sweden... The last update is from 2009 and it is the last one which will come out. Alas it does not work since the system needs the latest firmware update.
And as you know the dealer network has totally collapsed since the bankrupcy of Kroymans ( european roll out of cadillac) so finding a dealer is pretty difficult AND a dvd with firmware.

I will take a look monday and send you the details,
    Rds
    Jeroen

May not be the best idea to post about pirating on an open forum, I would take it to PM.

Honestly speaking... I will not say we are discussing any kind of piracy here....

Cadillac in Europe let us down not offering any kind of support for new Discs or even old discs.......... There is no way to get one

I think that If they let us down we have the right to find a way to make a copy....

This is all about.. Anyway its just my opinion...

No it is not legit and do you really need to give a lawyer a reason to start stuff.

Sorry for trying to help, go ahead and post about doing this on an open forum all you want.

    You're wrong.

Not high on their list of priorities? The FBI has an entire division devoted to cyber crime and intellectual theft. The US dept of justice has successfully extradited more than one foreign citizen to the US to face federal prosecution, all for sharing copyrighted materials. Even if you are sharing without expecting any profit, it's still a federal crime. The net act's financial penalties are hundreds of thousands of $$$ for each offense.

The FBI's cyber crime division could easily subpoena this site's administrators for your IP addresses, email addresses, and server info. All of which tells us/them exactly where you're located.

Keep openly discussing intellectual theft in a public forum and you'll pay the price. Or for your own good you could take conedoctor's friendly advice and STFU.

I just got dinged for, as the super moderator put it:

    Reason: Inappropriate Language
    -------
I get tired of explaining the dangers of exchanging copyrighted materials on public forums to folks like yourself.

I neither posted nor requested copyrighted information and the comment I made was subdued compared to what is in this thread. I was merely expressing an opinion.

Why is it there is no way (at least one I could see) to respond to moderators?

I think you were referring to my statements. I was merely expressing an opinion. I neither asked for a copy of copyrighted material nor did I offer a copy. As far as enforcement of intellectual property rights goes, the holder of the rights has to build a case and make a complaint and I doubt GM Europe would care about something that is obsolete technology. If GM Europe did care, the part would be available from someone. Also, from what I can see, GM has no claim of copyright on the NAV disc. Only Denso and the map and information suppliers copyrights appear and they may very well.

In the piracy case you cited, the guy was making $30 grand a month in advertising revenue while supplying pirated movies and television shows. The case involves a really big time case so I don't see it as relevant to the issue of a pirated copy of outdated maps and software for obsolete equipment.

I also looked at the wikipedia item you suggested and this statement is very interesting:

    Quoting Wikipedia here . . .
" . . . [The NET act] added a threshold for criminal liability where the infringer neither obtained nor expected to obtain anything of value for the infringement – "by the reproduction or distribution, including by electronic means, during any 180-day period, of 1 or more copies or phonorecords of 1 or more copyrighted works, which have a total retail value of more than $1,000" (17 USC 506(a)(1)(B)). Looks to me as if a person would have to engage in a enterprise that would exceed the retail value of $1,000." It is pretty lame if you think about it. If an intellectual item has a retail value of $0.99 one could apparently disseminate a 1000 copies for free without running afoul of the law. The real problem lies in the archaic business model which is a monopoly that subjects content suppliers to the rules of the distribution monopolizers but that issue is far afield the intent, scope and community of this forum.

Since GM Europe does not offer for sale a NAV disc suiting the purpose of member systembauer, it would be arguable that the things have a retail value of zero. Of course, that is American law. I think the enforcement policy would be determined under European Union law. Maybe he'd get somewhere by filing a complaint to the proper arm of the EUC. It might be the case that GM Europe is violating a law by not making it available, but figuring that out would require the help of a lawyer.

It is just too bad that GM is a broken company. It was bailed out of foolish and wasteful business practices by "bankruptcy" (which wasn't a real bankruptcy since the bondholders [OWNERS of any public company] got screwed) and the American taxpayer is on the hook for $25 billion that they will never see because the stock that the government owns has tanked. There will come a day when GM will be in exactly the same condition because the company is being run by government cronies that insist on losing 10's of thousands of dollars on each Volt produced just to make boutique cars that are not viable in today's market. Let's hope the buyer's and owners of GM's post "bankruptcy" products aren't hung out to dry.

The reason that a new disc for the NAV system is not available for Europe is that there is no financial incentive for GM to go to the expense to create one. There will never be a way for European owners of Cadillacs to get a legit copy of the disc other than buying a used one and that actually might be illegal too. Since a person only owns a license to software under most user agreements, the licensee may not be legally able to transfer that ownership right. It might be the case that the ownership right may only be transferred to the buyer of the entire vehicle.

I'll bet there were thousands of the things destroyed when the company consolidated but there also might be thousands sitting forgotten in a warehouse too. If someone at Cadillac Europe gave a crap, I'll bet they could be found.

As I noted, Denso claims a copyright to the disc so maybe Denso can provide one to systembauer. I think it would be worth asking. If he just wants to update his ROM he can buy a used copy of a North American disc on eBay. I got mine for $75. Maybe there is one for a different car that would work.

I actually hate the LCD in my car because it is dated and hard to use. I hope the update on the disc I'll be getting in a few days will fix that stupid and ugly display. Frankly, I think I'd be satisfied with the LCD version if it would work with the Bose. I'll just get a Tom Tom or something if I ever need NAV (which I doubt).
