Cadillac SRX First Generation Forum - 2004 - 2009 Discussion, replacement shocks/struts for mag susp in Cadillac SRX Forums; can you replace magnetic shocks with regular oem shocks/struts, my srx has 147k, and i want to do it cheaply,thanks...
I need some, too. I'll get some from Amazon for a little over $400 each. Much better than $800 each, but still ridiculously high priced. The ebay shocks are just regular shocks. They're getting around the system by putting a resistor on the connector that plugs into the electronic shocks. I assume that's where the resistor is being wired in. The resistor fools the system into thinking that the shock is present and normal. It probably works. If you knew resistance value of the resistor they use, you could probably save two or three hundred dollars by buying your own resistor. This sounds like a good way to make money on ebay to me. Buy shocks for maybe a hundred bucks or so, buy a few resistors for next to nothing and make $400 bucks on each sale.
Rdgfx3 I am re-searching this currently as well. I have still not confirmed whether or not my existing rear shocks (which are suspect) are functioning correctly. My one shock has a hole in the bag. Are u tryin to replace front or rear shocks?
There's a company called Strutmasters which sell a replacement system which includes regular struts and a plug-in resistor which fools the monitoring system. They will not sell the plugin resistors separately. i know this because i asked. They want you to purchase both the shocks and the resistors. I'm pretty sure that they are not using a variable resistor so you could experiment with different impedance values until you found one that worked.
Don't pay for a company selling cheap ones with the resistors. Buy the cheap shocks and figure out what resistor to use. Check the Seville forum out. I know that they have the resistor specs in there (~$1). I would guess that they use the same values on mag ride cars. You could always research the resistor spec or take a meter to yours.
