Yes, remove the fill plug, fluid should be at that level.

Re: 2005 SRX AWD V8 - Transmission oil change - how many ???

    Hi Cadillac_Qatar,

I only do my transmission oil change in Mannai Wakra last Sept or Oct. last year. Paid nearly 1000 QAR for Filter, gasket and Transmission oil. For engine oil I'm using mobile 1 (10,000km) but need to topup 1L after 5000km at Tyseer Petrol station in Wakir. I'm Planning to install a dedicated cooler for the transmission and hopefully it will help extend the transmission oil life. Mannai is a bit expensive and currently I am looking for a good garage to do my maintenance.

    HI
Is changing the transmission oil twice in one go considered a cheaper means for a flush? After this last experience with all the un seen problems,I just do not trust the past owner, so I was considering a complete fluid change front to rear. The dealer said he did a oil change when he gave the car but I am sure he looked for the cheapest and I do not even know weight oil he put in. Or if he used semi or full synthetic oil.or if he really did do it!

Consider a half glass of milk. Fill it up with water and mix. Pour out half and refill with more water. Keep repeating. How long until the glass holds pure water? At what point does it mean anything? Beats me!

Then just a oil pan drain an filter it will be. I know he did not tow, it had no hitch. Holland is flat, so no mountains. But he did do a lot of city driving. But for my peace an the low cost what the heck. We need to check the level anyway since the new trans oil cooler was put in.

As I remember, if the transmission was fully dry, 8,9 liter, at a filterchange 6 liter
but check the level with running engine and oil temperature must be about 50°C

I guess driving it for 45 mins should get it warm enough to check?

To finish filling the trans. fluid, the engine has to be running, in park. Not sure I'd want to drive 45 mins.on a partial fill.

I don't think, that you have to drive
just let the engine run, shift through the gears with few seconds between and let the temperate comes up, GM write nothing about driving.
in the manual GM told also, add max. 0.5l and check if there is not enough in.

    Uwe

    I replace in my car:
    Transfer case (new one)
I replace my transmission in february, because the drive shaft was sheared off. (oil change was done just 30,000 KM ago)
    rear differential
    DVD-Drive of the navi
    New radiator
    ignition coil (right bank)
and now problem with the right low beam

you will pay later for the cheaper price for new cars instead for example BMW / Audi. Even my Chevrolet Trailblazer have a better quality

Note the 6 speed an 5 speed have totally different ways of checking an adding oil. He did not loose much. Its only to fill the new cooler and lines
