| | Cadillac Owners Member | | | | | Can't open my liftgate after personalization everything worked fine until i tried the personalization. All of a sudden, I can't open my liftgate! There wasn't a step that even mentions the liftgate in the personalization procedure! Any of you had this problem before? All the fancy features made me feel dumb, except the cruise control, which is older than the design in my 98 explorer (on the steering wheel)
Thank you for any tips. |

Rear Hatch Door- We started to open the rear hatch one day and the door handle would not budge. In the past it has been very easy to open. When we got home I decided to try it again and found that if I jerked the handle the door would open. Opened and closed it several times and it did not change. Just thought I would try again and discovered that the left tie down D-Ring was up and getting wedged under the door. As soon as I moved the ring down the door latch works fine. Problem may also be caused by sitting in the sun? |

The GCadillac term for this is smart stick. I call it dip stick. What, you want cruise control on the steering wheel??? Next think you know you will wonder why they had to put an arrow in the gas gauge if it is such a natural thing to put the gas filler on the European side.
And if the features are an overload, be thankfukl you didn't by a European SRX. They have power folding mirrors. |

Despite the liftgate, I still love the car, way better than my loaner Deville, quiet and comfortable seat, the best seat I ever got into. CC on the Deville is on the wheel, but there's no way i'd trade my SRX for it. I agree, it would be much better if our CC is on the wheel, but heck, nothing is perfect in this world. |

Turns out I need to pull on the right side of the handle, not in the middle or left, and it opens every time easily. It felt like it was supposed to open this way (I did think it was stupid design) but now I'm believing an adjustment by the dealer might solve this. I'm used to it but if it worked properly then my passengers and guest would be able to open the rear hatch without my guidance!! |

Now I find that the “D” ring I mentioned in an earlier post was no problem at all. No doubt when I moved the “D” ring down I probably pulled on the right side of the handle. Amazing how the mind works or does not work. I do recall later times thinking it was possibly heat causing the problem since the “D” ring was down.
I just, out of curiosity, tried opening the tailgate pulling on the left (driver’s side) and the latch did not want to budge. Pull in the middle and it will open. Pull on the right and it opens much easier. Then other times it does not seem to matter where you pull. Will have the dealer look at the cable adjustment mentioned by ywrotk2006. |

I haven't tried pulling on the right side versus the center yet; I usually give it a few sharp tugs in a row. Unfortunately the problem isn't reproducible enough to go to the dealer, at least not yet. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
