Transfer case fluid change interval & recommendation

After seeing the excellent thread about the t-case chain replacement by JD2004 and 03zx6r:

    http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...placement.html

I decided to check my owner manual (2004)
The recommendation is only for "trailer towing" and specifies a fluid change every 50,000 miles (Dexron III).

Based on how oxidized the oil is in those photos (2 different vehicles), it looks like these run HOT.

I'd suggest a change every 50,000 miles for everybody, and using synthetic to prevent most of this oxidation.

    I just changed my t-case oil at 50,000 miles. (04 V6)
It looked pretty dark but didn't smell too bad.
Was surprised at how small the oil fill is.
Not much more than a pint - if you buy a quart of synthetic ATF you'll have plenty left over.
