    Rear of vehicle making noise

My SRX has an additional noise that appears to come from the area between the rear wheels. It is not related to engine speed, but rather vehicle speed. It is not audible below 35 mph, but starts like chains running over a cog wheel type noise and then changes to a high-pitch hum at higher speeds (45 mph and over). The hum is pretty annoying at 60 mph and constant with wheel speed. My thinking is that the rear differential is either low on oil or needs adjustment. The vehicle is AWD with about 55000 miles. I have an appointment booked with the dealer. Has anyone else experienced this?

Re: Rear of vehicle making noise

My '08 SRX Sport AWD just had the rear differential replaced at 49,000 miles. The symptoms mostly was differental fluid on the garage floor after longer trips (bad bearing must have heated fluid and caused overflow when hot) although I thought I heard rear end noise in the weeks preceeding.

Another noise? I'm very sorry to hear that, 08SRX. Hopefully the dealer will be able to find a resolution for you, and please keep us updated on your progress.
