I may not "hate" GM, but I sure wish they would have updated the 3.8 liter V6 rather than to
go with the "flow" toward the OHC engine. Perhaps with an aluminum block and set of polished heads
along with a modern variable pitch turbocharger to enhance low speed torque.
These porkers need at least 350 fft.lbs. to maintain speed in hilly country.

...or something like a 4.0L V8 turbo. Say ..420 horses? The move away from V8s is because it is cheaper to manufacture V6s in most cases, but they don't sound as nice, are not as smooth and get no better mileage.

    Re: GM Timing Chain Letter

I got mine on my 2009 last night...

It is like allgm's letter... started out stating GM knew mine had been replace, and that I had taken it in for the recall service. Same as the others - 10 years / 120k miles.

Mine clearly indicated that GM discovered reprogramming for oil changes more often did not stop the chains from going bad.

I put WAY more then 12k miles a year on mine.. more like 16 to 18k.

I was quite concerned about the T-Chain, considering how many are being replaced. So this helps "ease the mind" a bit.

I have a 08 V6 52k miles. Received my letter this past week. Timing chain warranty extended to 120 miles or 10 years from in-service date. I had the reprogramming done about 4-5 months ago. I wonder if you have to have the reprogramming done to get the extended warranty.

    Re: GM Timing Chain Letter

call any GM dealer and have the service department run your VIN to check for special coverage #10287

some of these special coverages will even pay you for a repair that you already have had performed

    Another Rowlett guy here.

I had mine replaced at my cost. Lucky for me I have a good mechanic buddy who charged me a low price and no markup on the parts. It would be nice to be reimbursed. I'll wish in one hand and...

    Re: GM Timing Chain Letter

I just spoke with a GM dealership and was told my car didnt come up with code #10287 based on my vin#. However, can anyone suggest a time to replace the timing chain. My mechanic is worried it may become an issue. I have the 2005 CTS with a little over 88k miles. My mechanic has replaced the tensonor already. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

    Re: GM Timing Chain Letter

the time to replace the chain is when it is worn and causes a check engine light (there is a sensor to monitor the chain stretch)

before that you're wasting your $$

    Re: GM Timing Chain Letter

Just a quick note on this topic. I have a 2009 STS w 74k miles without an extended warranty that is having this issue. After researching this in this forum I called the dealer and gave him my vin and the timing chain letter#.....long story short I have an appt in 3 days for replacement of the timing chain and a free loaner. I was staring a $2000+ repair bill in the face and once again the forum comes through for me. Thanks to all.

Mrmac1954, Hello I am new to this group. I live in Canada. My Check engine light came on. I was informed of campaign 11340. Under this 11340,11340C Special coverage adjustment. Timing chain was replaced under warranty .
Now it seems 9 months later there is a problem. 07 SRX is in the process of being diagnosed.
Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar situation. And the out come.

    Re: GM Timing Chain Letter

Welp I have an 06 and had to pay 2000+ because GM will not stand behind this issue for models under 2007 to answer the question from 3 yrs ago, smh!!! Shame on GM, they need to give me my money back.

Possible it went bad again and you better have them replace it again while under warranty if that is in fact the issue. U don't want this to become ur $2000+ problem like it did for me.
