DENSO improvements list

Remove this ad
Hey all, sorry, I changed the name from what I said it was going to be, sounded better than dislikes.

This post is a way to help us work better with Denso and to get an idea as to what things the SRX users do not like about the unit (do they put this in other Caddy's? should we put this somewhere else?). Please simply list out improvements that you wish to see, or things that are annoying to you. make it simple so I can understand it and be able to create a list of common things that everyone has issue with.

Examples:
Navigation changes while driving
RCA input
Tire monitor on/off feature
selectable car management system options (the info screen on the top right where you can tap through all the data being read by the car, it would be nice to make this configurable on/off so there may be 3 or 4 things you car about that you can see easily)

these are just examples of things that I had issue with.

Once I get a good list and stop seeing new things, I will then do a voting to see what is most important and so on. This will give me good things to talk about with the denso team that sells to cadillac.

Have patience with me. I travel a lot and have a little kid and wife that take up most of my time.

Talk to you all soon

Re: DENSO improvements list

Ok, aside from the obvious (codes);

--Timely and affordable NAV DVD updates.

--Easier way to align actual location with NAV location. (I'm off by 20-30 feet, and can't get closer with their "twisty" set-up)

--Auto Sound that actually works.

Re: DENSO improvements list

thanks for getting this going. I need to be specific with which codes we can get. Nav while driving is a single code. they are not going to give the keys to the kingdom, so i want to hear what everyone wants specifically.

DVD is a code
Nav while driving is a separate code
other features and functionality

Re: DENSO improvements list

To repeat from my other posts:

Navigation System

- Remove "safety" function that disables routing and other navigation features while vehicle is in motion.

- Expose/show GPS system data such as lat/long position, vehicle speed, satellite locations, satellite strengths, 2-D/3-D fix, altitude, etc.

- Provide regular (at least every 6-12 months) and affordable mapping and POI updates, and preferably NOT through dealerships.

- Provide regular downloadable firmware updates that owners can use to easily update the system themselves.

- Allow driver to "cancel route" directly from interface without having to hit long sequence of 3-4 buttons.

Vehicle Information System

- Allow driver to configure display and sequence of all information system items (e.g. show only time/temp, fuel range and trip odo #1, but don't show tire monitor, oil life or anything else for driver #1)

Many thanks for doing this! Good luck!

Re: DENSO improvements list

This is great. Thanks for the time you're putting into it. Hopefully we can collectively come up with some feedback that will help them to improve the product. Ok, here are my issues:

- RCA input (as mentioned above)

- Accessable GPS Data (as mentioned above)

- Easy route cancellation (as mentioned above)

- Video Output (for mounting extra screens)

- A mute button for the navigator's voice (sometimes she interrups and won't shut up when I'm trying to listen to the radio or talking on the phone)

- A "distance travelled" indicator. (sometimes I start a trip without noting the time or the trip length, and after an hour I want to know what percent of the trip I've already driven, not simply what I have left)

- reconfigurable color scheme

- On mine the radio tuning buttings on the left hand side are a pain. They are actually the tuning buttons, not the "seek" buttons. You have to hold it down for a long second to get it to seek the next viable station. Simply tapping the buttons only moves you in small increments so it takes forever to find a new station. I think this should be reversed

- A Compass. There's a compass in the car, why not in the Nav system? A GPS can't tell which way you're headed till you start moving. As a result the map is often sideways or upside down when you start out.

- Speed Limits! It'd be great to know the official limit of any road that you are on, without having to look for a sign. (no big brotherism, just information please. Don't tell me I'm speeding - I know I am - just list the speed limit in the corner of the screen so I can calculate the fine. Or if you want to calculate the fine that could be helpful too.)

- On mine the radio "fades up" when you turn it on. The CD however does not. It should.

- Cell phone integration (blue tooth?)

- A better way of telling it to avoid certain areas. On my trips from DC to Boston, I want to skirt around NYC, rather than going straight through it as the nav system prefers. Setting up an area to "avoid" is a pain in the neck with the current system. Picking an "alternate route" changes the whole route, even though most of the route is already optimal.

- Programmable voice prompts for favorite locations. Say I want to go to "Work", or "Home", Or "Bedford" or "The Old Bridge" or whatever without having to enter it by hand. Basically just have programmable voice recognition for saved locations....like all the cell phones now have.

- The "I'm hungry" voice recognition trick is cool, but the "I have to go to the bathroom" and "I'm falling asleep where's the next rest stop" are missing.

- I do a lot of my road trips at night. A listing of all-night restaurants and gas stations would be helpful.

- The ability to set the default screen to "Off" Or at least change the colors of the default screen. If I don't press the waiver button I see the cadillac logo, which is nice, but the blue background is not cool at all. Being able to change that to a black background or something would be way better. Or being able to have it simply turn the screen off if I don't press the button. Options are key here...let us change it to suit our tastes.

- Better anti-glare. It tends to wash out in sunlight

- Better visibility with polarized sunglasses

- Put the nav instructions on a HUD.

- A "rally mode" where it calls out all the turns and bends in the road "medium right followed by a hard left!"

- A way to store the map data for the current trip internally while using the DVD drive to play a movie for passengers. What the heck is the point of being able to play DVDs if you can't use it to entertain passengers on a long trip (IE a trip where the nav system is needed)

That's all I've got for the moment. I'll post more if I think of it.

Scott

Exclamation Re: DENSO improvements list

Greetings All,

I agree with just about everything said so far.

- The ability to tell the system to take a specif course (road) on a route.

- A computer interface for route planing, etc.

My Garmin system is 5 years old and has not been update in 3 years. It's still light years ahead of the DENSO system.

Have a GREAT day all,
GHG :coolgleam

Is that computer interface cable or wireless?

Re: DENSO improvements list

Cable or wireless? Good question. Bluetooth would be cool, or 802.11.. or the wire could be something you would bring out the laptop to do the work on.

My remotecontrol for my home entertainment, hometheatre master mx-700, has a great pc interface that shows the remote and when you select different choices on the remote, additional menus pop up for you to program each button and the softscreen with macros and the like. then when you are done, you download it to the remote. this would be a cool option for the stereo.

The big deal is that this stereo is an integral part of the car. It would be nice to customize it, since we cannot pull it out!

now we just have to get them on board with the input for audio and output for video as well...
