This is great. Thanks for the time you're putting into it. Hopefully we can collectively come up with some feedback that will help them to improve the product. Ok, here are my issues:
- RCA input (as mentioned above)
- Accessable GPS Data (as mentioned above)
- Easy route cancellation (as mentioned above)
- Video Output (for mounting extra screens)
- A mute button for the navigator's voice (sometimes she interrups and won't shut up when I'm trying to listen to the radio or talking on the phone)
- A "distance travelled" indicator. (sometimes I start a trip without noting the time or the trip length, and after an hour I want to know what percent of the trip I've already driven, not simply what I have left)
- reconfigurable color scheme
- On mine the radio tuning buttings on the left hand side are a pain. They are actually the tuning buttons, not the "seek" buttons. You have to hold it down for a long second to get it to seek the next viable station. Simply tapping the buttons only moves you in small increments so it takes forever to find a new station. I think this should be reversed
- A Compass. There's a compass in the car, why not in the Nav system? A GPS can't tell which way you're headed till you start moving. As a result the map is often sideways or upside down when you start out.
- Speed Limits! It'd be great to know the official limit of any road that you are on, without having to look for a sign. (no big brotherism, just information please. Don't tell me I'm speeding - I know I am - just list the speed limit in the corner of the screen so I can calculate the fine. Or if you want to calculate the fine that could be helpful too.)
- On mine the radio "fades up" when you turn it on. The CD however does not. It should.
- Cell phone integration (blue tooth?)
- A better way of telling it to avoid certain areas. On my trips from DC to Boston, I want to skirt around NYC, rather than going straight through it as the nav system prefers. Setting up an area to "avoid" is a pain in the neck with the current system. Picking an "alternate route" changes the whole route, even though most of the route is already optimal.
- Programmable voice prompts for favorite locations. Say I want to go to "Work", or "Home", Or "Bedford" or "The Old Bridge" or whatever without having to enter it by hand. Basically just have programmable voice recognition for saved locations....like all the cell phones now have.
- The "I'm hungry" voice recognition trick is cool, but the "I have to go to the bathroom" and "I'm falling asleep where's the next rest stop" are missing.
- I do a lot of my road trips at night. A listing of all-night restaurants and gas stations would be helpful.
- The ability to set the default screen to "Off" Or at least change the colors of the default screen. If I don't press the waiver button I see the cadillac logo, which is nice, but the blue background is not cool at all. Being able to change that to a black background or something would be way better. Or being able to have it simply turn the screen off if I don't press the button. Options are key here...let us change it to suit our tastes.
- Better anti-glare. It tends to wash out in sunlight
- Better visibility with polarized sunglasses
- Put the nav instructions on a HUD.
- A "rally mode" where it calls out all the turns and bends in the road "medium right followed by a hard left!"
- A way to store the map data for the current trip internally while using the DVD drive to play a movie for passengers. What the heck is the point of being able to play DVDs if you can't use it to entertain passengers on a long trip (IE a trip where the nav system is needed)
That's all I've got for the moment. I'll post more if I think of it.
