Warranty 3.6 Rebuild For Oil Consumption; Anyone Get GM To Replace Cats & Plugs too?

I'm wrapping up my dealer oil consumption test and am anticipating an engine rebuild/replacement soon under b2b warranty (she's going through 1 quart of Mobil 1 5w30 every ~750 miles). What's your opinions as to whether I have a case to request a replacement engine vice a rebuild (timing chains replaced twice already at 16k and 33k miles...now at 44K)? Do I have a case to request replacement of the spark plugs & catalytic converters which have had their life dramatically shortened by the oil consumption? Anybody have their engine, plugs, cats replaced under warranty due to excessive oil consumption? Thanks, Steve

Depending on the area you are in, check your warranty details. In many areas, cats are under warranty by law for as long as 8 years. Typically this is a federally mandated environmental rule.

I think they will rebuild the engine (rings and valve guides) but won't replace anything else like the catalytic convertors unless the cats are failing.

I bounced the idea off the service manager about replacing the engine (due to 3 timing chains in 44,000 miles) and he gave me the expected GM answer of cost, wait until we tear it down, etc. Also thinking about running it through an emissions testing station in Denver to see if that shows any cat damage before it goes in for the engine work.

dont waste your time with a emission test, if you have a failed catalytic converter the check engine light would be on and codes
p0420 or p0430 would be set.
