Hi I have a 2005 SRX V6 AWD. Lately on a long grade the engine( or it feels like the engine) will shutter or buck. It feels similar to the defective cat converters I had replaced about a year ago, but they are no codes. It almost feels like the engine is missfiring, or the torque converter. When the transmission down shifts the shuttering goes away. Looking for similar experiences or help narrowing down problem to the engine or tranny.
From own experience and what I have read on this forum, the shudder probably relates to your torque converter locking up/disengaging. A transmission flush and semi-synthetic ATF has been the "cure" for some SRX owners. Might be a good place to start.
Caper10, there are many discussions of the transmission shudder problem, posted over the past five years. The usual "cure" was a reflash and/or torque converter replacement. There is at least one TSB covering the problem.
Be careful in changing the trans fluid; many recommend a drain and filter replacement, NOT a flush. And the proper spec fluid is Dexron VI.
After about a month of the shutter it finally threw a code on a 4 Hr haul home last night. PO302 Cylinder 2 missfire. I'm suspecting the coil. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, i'm going to pull the sparkplug and look at the wires and coil. Any other suggestions?
Had the exact same thing happen on my 2500k trip home from the dealer after purchase. Long grade engine felt like it was stalling, this occured a couple of times and the engine light would flash then tranny would downshift and problem would go away. I assumed car had been sitting up for a while on the dealer lot and it was dirty injectors, added some cleaner at the next pit stop and it has cured the problem, or so i think! Dealer has called to offer warranty @ $1600.00 for 3yrs. it's an 04 v6 awd, think i should buy it? Powertrain, awd and all seals are covered.
I drive a 05 SRX and I experienced the exact thing a few months ago. At first the check engine light would come on and blink only during the hesitation or bucking, as soon as the road leveled off the engine light would go off, it took several weeks before the light would stay on. I had the exact same code you do. I replaced the coil pack on that cylinder & problem solved. Good luck, and let us know how that turns out.
I changed the coil on #2 Cylinder a couple of days ago. It seems OK now but I'll see for sure when I get on a long run later this week. It wasn't too bad to change except for moving the upper intake manifold out of the way. The new coil was $85 for an aftermarket unit.
