2006 V6 AWD engine trans questions

Remove this ad
My wife and I have a 2006 SRX AWD V6. We recently had an incident and hit a re-tread while on a trip. It messed up radiator, condenser, AC lines, power steering lines. We had it fixed in Abilene where the accident happened. After getting it back to Dallas we took it in to get the bumper re-painted. Absolutely no issues with the SRX before. Since we have had it back home the check engine light came on last Sunday. I have a code reader and it showed P0420. Catalytic converter right? We get the bumper fixed and the shop re-set the check engine light and no codes pending now. However, we wife runs out this morning and on the way home notices a grinding metallic noise when driving down the alley. I listened to it and revved it and the motor sounds fine. Only get the noise when revving in neutral or when in gear. Sounds like a torque converter to me. So do you think hitting a semi re-tread at 75 MPH could cause the issues with the catalytic converter and the grinding noise? I am concerned since we are just over 50,000 and we did not get an extended warranty. Any ideas or thoughts? Thanks.
Frank

Re: 2006 V6 AWD engine trans questions

So I was thinking on this and thought maybe the trans fluid is low. I have had that issue on my 72 Malibu as it has a continuous leak that I have not fixed yet. I do not see any leaks but the dealer had the trans and a bunch of lines off when they fixed it. I go to look and no trans dipstick. How the heck do you check the trans level on these things?

So I found this thread. Maybe this is the problem?

http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...laced-40k.html (2006 Both Catalytic converter's replaced at 40k)

Blunt force would be a tire hitting the front end.

Glad I found that post. I spent some time this morning checking it out and it is definitely the passenger cat converter. I am taking it back in tomorrow to get insurance to cover it and have them double check the driver cat converter.

Thanks for the info. This happened due to hitting a re-tread so insurance will be covering it. I just want to get the Caddy back in the driveway so the wife can quit driving my Tahoe.

Re: 2006 V6 AWD engine trans questions

The Caddy is back. After all the issues I had the battery die on Saturday morning. It was not truly a surprise. I ended up running to the dealer to get a replacement since the places around did not have one in stock. Ended up being the most expensive battery I have purchased but she is back running good. I also changed out the cabin filter as well. It definitely needed it. I must say, even with the issue caused by the tire it honestly as been a good car and we really like it.
