Basically, the check engine light came on, dealer says half of the motor was built in one place, the other half the motor was built somewhere else. They need to rebuild one bank of it because the cam timing is off. Have to order parts, and it will take 4-6 weeks to get them.. then 3 weeks to rebuilt. WTF. Is there some problem with these engines??? it only has 22000 miles on it. |

Not much you can do, but get a nice loaner car, paid for by GM, and chill out for a few months. Put the mileage on the loaner. It does seem like a long time to repair. You might want to vent your frustration to the Cadillac Zone office, maybe get some extra perks. Yes, I would be somewhat upset.
I don't believe the motor was built in two different places. Should be assembled at one of GM Powertrain facilities, parts come from everywhere. Anyway that should not matter. Engine is warranteed.
Good Luck in getting everything solved. Keep us posted. |

I called Cadillac directly and spoke to someone, but the dealership wasn't open so they couldn't do anything about it tonight.... meanwhile, the gas mileage on the car is getting worse. They want her to drive it while she waits for the parts to come in.... unreal. |

But the 3 weeks to fix it is rediculous. I would assume if you waited 6 weeks for parts you would be near the front of the line for repairs, so they are basically saying 18 days (144 hours) at $100/hour to repair the engine.
Sure hope one of us doesn't have a similar problem that's out of warranty - that's $15k to replace one head.
You did say SRX, not Lamborgini?

The assembly plants weren't the only ones shut down for most of the last few months. I imagine GM-built parts stock is getting pretty low and supplier-built parts aren't being shipped because of payment problems. If GM isn't careful, they might be killed by a thousand tiny cuts called parts shortages. They no longer have the money or aircraft fleet to fly parts to plants. |

If the sewers are under construction...the alligators may be disturbed and on the prowl for lunch also.
