Ultraview sunroof binding

Remove this ad
I am experiancing trouble with my ultraview sunroof, it shudders and binds when it is closing, this has gotten progressivly worse over a few days. I shudders so much the whole roof panel shakes, the binding has gotten to the point that the motor strains and binds, the roof stops and reverses. I will be contacting the dealer today.
Has anyone else experianced these symtoms?

Leo

Re: Ultraview sunroof binding

I attached a link to a previous post on this. But have you inspected the tracks, are they clean an lubed? That may be all it is but read this, there is a reply from me in it that has 2 attachments on the cleaning aspect. Also check the torx bolts to see if tight(proper torque)

Please check the Torx bolt. I didn't listen, and now I have to head to the dealer.

Re: Ultraview sunroof binding

i have an 07 srx v6
i took my car in and had a gasket replaced that was making a wind sound... replaced under warranty and a couple days later i tried to close the sunroof with the one touch and it closed smoothly and then opened back up. i had to hold the button down to make it stay closed..
i took it back in on june 16th and herd nothing.. i called friday and they said it was giving them alot of problems and would have to wait till monday to work on it some more.. ok its tuesday the 23rd and they call me back saying they may have to order a new motor. under warranty.

i still have about 4000 miles under warranty, what does everyone think of buying the extended warranty? it cost $2700

Is that the GM warranty ? Sounds high. Get some quotes on that.

Re: Ultraview sunroof binding

I have an "05 AWD v8 with the sun roof. It also was shuddering and binding; I sprayed the tracks and all moving parts with WD40 lubricant (be careful not to make a mess on the headliner) using the thin plastic extender nozel. It has worked great.

Re: Ultraview sunroof binding

Great news for you glad you caught this early. Always nice to have all options working 100%. Go for a drive with the roof open and enjoy...

Clean and lube the tracks. My wife's 06 was doing the same. I checked the bolts and then re-greased the tracks and everything is great.

Re: Ultraview sunroof binding

Yes, use silicone grease onlly,,no crappy WD40,,,,grease and a Q-tip is what my dealer used after wiping the track clean with a rag....

Re: Ultraview sunroof binding

Mine was binding too and after spraying the track with Jig-A-Loo all is well... I found this at Advanced Auto Parts. http://www.jigaloo.com/us/e_products_jigaloo.php

Re: Ultraview sunroof binding

I had my 2008 SRX into the dealer to get the sunroof fixed but when I got the car back the sunroof doesn't seem to fully open. How close to the antena on the roof does the sunroof get, Mine is about 3 inches away.

Re: Ultraview sunroof binding

When fully open mine is just about1 1.5 in from the vertical portion of the antenna. Now with that said I pushed the open button and it stopped on its own about 6 in from the fully open position, hit the button again and fully opened. No bind or shuddering... There is a procedure in the OM TO sync the headliner anf the ultraview i'll use on the weekend to see if this fixes it.
