An SRX-V would be nice... But...

...now that the new model is front wheel drive, we're probably not going to see one.. Personally, It think this Crossover segment is going to grow to almost that of regular cars. They're roomy, they ride on car platforms, they handle better than trucks, they're light, can be very luxurious - and lately - very powerful. To ignore "performance" Crossovers is a mistake...

We've got several very fast Crossovers on the road. And the BMW X5 M is on it's way...

Although the official video from BMW failed to give any performance figures, some sources have indicated the X5 M will do with a turbocharged 4.4L V8 putting out 407 horsepower. However, now that BMW has confirmed the new model will wear the M badge rather than the more mundane xDrive50i moniker, we expect more than ‘just’ 407 ponies. Look for a figure closer to 500 horsepower in the road-going model.

No reason why they can't produce 400+ HP transverse engine AWD crossovers. That would be the best way to deliver the power.

Greg, are you thinking " a la Lambda"? I would be all over that. Preferrably in Caddy form, but if need be in Buick Super form. That is the only thing that could presently move me out of my Lade. A 350+ HP Lambda.

Exactly, I heard there was an AWD 5.3 GMC Acadia Denali planned at one time.

As for the lambda platform, it's too tall for my wife to enter without a step. I also keep thinking of a certain fraternity in "Revenge of the Nerds".

I heard rumors that the new 'Lade will be Lambda based . . . . I'm curious.

HMMM. Even without the optional 19" rims? I thought it sat about the same as the SRX and entry and exit seemed pretty good in the ones I have driven. Definitely more room in back for the wheelchair.

Re: An SRX-V would be nice... But...

I haven't tried to transfer her into an Enclave (etc.), but it failed the seat height test that mimics her sitting back onto the seat:

- Open the passenger door and move the seat to the lowest, most rearward position
- Place a tape measure against the lower door sill, even with the midway point of the seat bottom cushion, and measure up 18" from the ground.
- Bend the tape measure toward the seat at the 18" mark and read the tape where it contacts the top edge of the seat bottom.

30" is the maximum value for safe transfers for my wife. Both the SRX and MKZ measure 30", as does the DTS. (Seat height and distance between the door sill and seat are factors.) The Allante measures 27". The Enclave measures 34". Measurements above 30" mean we have to use a step (very iffy late in the day or when she's tired) or I have to muscle her into the car.

That extra 4 inches is a lot then! My "estimate" was just that - a visual guess.
