04 SRX Brakes lockup

My 2004 SRX intermittently seems to lockup the brakes hard while braking, and they wont release, does not give any warning lights on dash. Sometimes resets by putting in park or reverse and tapping brake pedal. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: 04 SRX Brakes lockup

Have you ever had the brakes serviced? The brake calipers slide on two bolts. The calipers have bushings that need to be able to slide freely on the bolts. If the bushings/bolts are dry or corroded, the caliper can get somewhat siezed with the non-piston side of the caliper pushing hard against the brake rotor.

Simple brake service done 2x per year to lubricate the bushings can make the brakes work much smoother, and double your brake life.

Re: 04 SRX Brakes lockup

Is it ALL WHEELS or just ONE WHEEL?
Does it always lock up the same way?

Had that with a Town Car. Right front caliper piston seal/piston would swell after several brakings and seize in the clamped position. Felt like parking brake was on.

Re: 04 SRX Brakes lockup

This happened on my02 Escalade, my last gas guzzler. The caliper went bad, was not fully disengaging the rotor. When it was acting up, I'd be coming to a stop and it would seem as if the brakes were locking up. If you have a chance, when it locks up, get out and check the wheel, very carefully though. If it is hot, this may be your issue. Be careful though, this can make the wheel extremely hot, and burn you on contact.

Re: 04 SRX Brakes lockup

Thanks to all for your replies. Not sure if all wheels are locking up, I think it's just the front right. I did take all brakes apart and cleaned and replaced pads. I might try to rebuild the front right caliper. Could this be a speed sensor even though Im not getting a dtc light?
