Power Steering Problems

Got a slightly used (2004 4.6lt AWD ) SRX with 76.000 km ( 47 K miles) just about one week ago. Radiator leaked from day one and it got replaced right away (still one month warranty left).
Love this car and a few days ago I did a bit of serious driving in the twisties with it. Amazing handling - moves like a Sports Car.
When I pulled into the driveway I noticed that the Power Steering would not work. . :hmm: Having a problem with my tennis elbow it sure was serious work to get this thing to its proper place. .
Anyways - opened the hood and checked power steering fluid, which seemed to be ok.
Next day I take the car and -surprise - everything worked the way it should.
At least the first few miles that is. .
Called up the used car dealer (not a Cadillac Dealer) , wher I bought it and they told me to come and see them, since they'll check it out.
Chief mechanic there (seems to be a nice, straight forward guy)checked things out and couldn't find anything. He called a "Specialist", who came one hour later with his truck and machinery. This guy specialises in power steerings - he changed the fluid , but this didn't resolve the problem either. Now they think it is electrically related and I got an appointment coming Monday where the car goes to a place which specialises in this sort of problem (checking pump, switches and so on)
The interior light also did not work - they replaced the fuse, which blew right away again. . Mechanic told me that the interior light did work 2 weeks ago, since he had this car for a weekend (I was not sure whether it worked or not when I bought the car). Now they think that perhaps this electrical problem might also have to do with the motor / sensor for the power steering. .

This morning I just had to move the car out of the driveway (since the neighbour had to cut a tree:rolleyes:) - and power steering worked the way it should. . :hmm:

Please , please tell me I did not buy a lemon. . . First the radiator, now this. . what's next ?

Really hate to rain on your party but everythings next!
I'd advise you get an attorney and unwind the sale at no cost to you.
Having non Mr Goodwrench Cadillac trained tire changers work on your space ship kind of electronics is unbearable to even think about.
Then find a Cad dealer with a GM certified warranty and be happy (during the downtime you'll sure to have) with the beautiful but fragile SRX.

:wambulance:

Thanks for your advice John. You made my day. . . :banghead:. . . lol

I still got about 23 days left on the warranty, but was thinking of going to a certified Cadillac Dealer and have the car completely inspected incl. getting the history of the car ( previous repairs/ problems and so on ). Even if it costs me a few bucks to have this done. If they (GM) tell me some sort of really bad news then I will get another car. There is no need to call an attorney yet - it states in my contract ( Quebec consumer law ) that we got 30 days or 1700 km (1050 miles) to do that.
Oh - in just in case it comes to this point ( which I hope it will not) I know already what my next car will be :
SRX 4.6 AWD :yup:

Shouldn't take a Mr. Goodwrench to see if the pump was leaking. 10 year old neighbor girl would spot that, plus you saw the fluid wasn't low. With these "expert" guys having done some things with your electronics and then replace a pump is a big warning. Not a lot unlike going to the doctor with an ear ache and getting eye drops to fix the ear. Get your money back and go to a Caddy dealer with 100k warranty on used SRX, or something, but run from this one.
Any other (agreeing/disagreeing) opinions/advice out there?
