My wife took the SRX in for the 30,000 mile check up required to keep the 100,000 mile warranty in effect (certified used Warranty). When she called me and said they wanted over $800 for it, I questioned why it cost so much and found that they wanted $150 to change the air filter and the PCV valve. I told then I would do that. Later, I bought the WIX filter for less than $20 and installed it in less than 10 minutes. I have not been able to find a PCV valve for this V6 engine. The parts guy told me that this engine may not even have a PCV valve. I have searched these forums and Google and have not found one. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks for any guidance
PS - Other charges for the inspection included changing the power steering and braker fluids :- ( |

Information in the shop manual describes it for the 6 & 8 but doesn't give location or service interval simply stating it's hose connects to the intake body.
Might go to the dealers parts dept asking the price and look at their computer picture that may show it's location.
Thoughts: ask service dept for the printed list of required service items and when needed to keep warranty in effect. Also, if you or others (Sears, Jiffy Lube, etc)do the work what proof do you need to keep..get that in writing too.
Might shop dealers for prices too...that sounds way out of line.
Had an Olds and PCV was out of sight under the intake manifold. |

I doubt any fluids need to be replaced at 30,000 miles and think any components other than the air filter should be warranty. Is this the dealer that sold you the SRX? Post the dealer's name so we can all be sure we do not wander in for some simple service. |

However, I do know that way back in '01 the Corvette went to a "metered orifice" to replace the PCV. It is built into the valley cover under the intake manifold, and connects with a rubber hose to the intake manifold just behind the throttle body. It's not serviceable. I assume caddy has done the same, cause it saves about $1.
Concerning warranty; I have never ever taken a GM vehicle to a dealer for service. And I have never had a dealer question the validity of my extended warranty. I don't save receipts, I do all my own maintenance, and I keep my cars in great shape.
The GM warranty on my Vette had no specific wording about dealer required service.

Where is the information on service requirements to maintain the CPO warranty found? |

I've noticed that the xx,000 mile service items touted by dealers often go way beyond what is stated in the owner's manual. Many folks just say "OK" to the dealer recommended package rather than ask what is included.
Are people still getting dealer alerts to come in and have their SRX tires rotated? |

And when they put Mobil 1 in, this includes oil & lube outlets, they still put the 3,000 mile or 6 month oil change reminder sticker on the windshield. However our dealer is excellent on all warranty and they get my oil and filter changes. |

DG | There is monoply law, precedent, or judgement. I forget the name and number. It allows you to have property maintained elsewhere or yourself.
You will have to show proof that service was complete if you ever put in a warranty claim. That will be written in small print in the warranty booklet.
IE,
I always change my own oil. I purchased the Ford factory 100K mile E.S.P. for my 1997 Mustang Cobra. When it cracked the #7 piston ring, they asked for receipts. I gave them one receipt from NAPA (back dated) showing 50 gal. drum of oil and 3 cases of filters.
No problem. |

And, like many times before after reading Forum topics I had to check my SRX and this time search for a PCV. Looks like it's the little white plastic part in a line that connects to the throttle body. It is little!
The dealer mentioned at the top of this thread should be reported to an auto repair scam department of the states Consumer Protection Agency. Might be worth getting a written repair estimate to pursue.
California a few weeks ago fined a national franchise repair chain..big time. |

I'm searching and didn't find it! My CTS also just began to consume some oil and its the same v6 as yours! My car has 98k miles and never changed the pcv so I'm sure its that. Thanks guys! |
