Angry GM response / SRX issue / left out!

Remove this ad
Currently have a 2007 SRX V6. Noted with service department that at 7,500 miles that I was hearing a noise at hwy speeds ~ a whine / pinging / knocking sound, coming from the floorboard area of the car. They kept the car and drove it a few days, agreeing that yes, they hear the sound also. After looking for the source of the sound, nothing was found. Monthly, I manage to get fed-up with the sound and return to the dealer and complain. They agreed to let me speek with the factory rep for our region. We all piled into the car and went for a ride....the noise was there and once again we all heard it. At the time his response was that they cannot just throw parts at the car to find the problem....justification was needed. He said that he would check with GM engineers and return a verdict soon.

Today the verdict came and I was told that it was "normal" operating sound of the vehicle. BS! When you don't have an error code for a part and you're stumped, fall under the umbrella of "its normal" besides there is another 35,000 miles of warranty left. I feel that he has left the customer holding the bag on this one. I would just like my car fixed ~ now and not later if and when it officially breaks.

If it is "normal" then let someone else have the pleasure. I'd like to know if anyone has persued moderation or buy-backs with GM and how they work. They haven't failed in fixing it 3 times, they won't attempt a fix at all.

To give such a $ for a GM top of the line vehicle and get treated like a complete idiot, really leaves a bad taste in my mouth for the next GM vehicle whether it is a Cadillac or a Saturn.

Any solutions?

Re: GM response / SRX issue / left out!

Thats very frustrating. My 2007 V8 AWD SRX has an annoying cracking/rattling noise that comes from the driver side roof/ultra-view area when driving over larger bumps or rougher roads. Odd thing is I only hear it when its a cloudy day or the temp is below 45 degrees. Once the sun is out or it warms up a bit its magically gone. I've had all the Ultra-view TSBs performed with no change. I'll just have to deal with it in the winters I guess. I feel your pain though with the Dealers. After a few visits to the dealer they just thought i was nuts and wanted to start replacing other parts in the car such as dash pieces, even though the dash was completely fine. Its not bad enough for me to pursue a lemon law/buy back, but in your case seems they need to do something. Maybe some kinda trade in and give you a hefty discount on a new vehicle.

Re: GM response / SRX issue / left out!

Unfortunately, you've discovered GM's warranty claim process: deny, ignore, refuse, refute, snub, decline, etc.

You've also found out the true value of the lengthy warranty you thought came with car.

If you want a lesson in pure frustration, call the customer no-service number listed in your owner's manual. You'll learn the art of double speak. And don't think you can work up any chain of command within GM - apparently no one answers to anyone there.

Re: GM response / SRX issue / left out!

I'm currently awaiting a phone call from the rep who says my noise is a "normal" operating noise.

I did manage to find some information on a torque converter reprogram via this site. I took that information to the dealer today and requested that this reprogram be performed as per the TSB. He denied me the service and said that the rep would have the final verdict on that beings itall stems to the original issue. I explained to the service manager that this should be a no brainer.....no parts wasted on my car, only a tech and 20 minutes to reflash the torque control module. If it works...we're all happy and if it didn't, he'd get credit for trying something.

My fear is that if the rep says no to any repair in association to this problem, I'm riding this thing til the warranty runs out or I trade the car off and take a beating.

Not really sold on the GM policy of customer service....I believe that the dealership wants to help.....but the higherups keep a tight rope on their managers.

Beware of "NORMAL" "ABNORMAL" sounds in your car. Just like homelife......you'll probably be told to live with it!

Hope to have an update soon!

Re: GM response / SRX issue / left out!

Just got the update....S.O.L.!

No additional consideration for a fix is to be given unless it addresses the issue directly. Was told that the noise that the noise I hear would probably not even be considered due to the fact that it is faint. Falls below the "acceptable" tollerance for interior noise. B.S. ! Any noise that appears 7500 miles into ownership and is acknowledged by everyone that has ridden in the car / service managers included should not be written off as "normal" beacause GM can't and won't locate the source.

Turn the radio on and run the blower was the "fix for the day". GM should hand their head when these kinds of responses are given to customers with what they feel is a problem.

GM / Cadillac buyers read this post and all the others....then make your decision.

Sorry about your problem, but from your last line there....it sure sounds like you have something to "gain" from "running off" potential GM customers. Hmmmmmm

Re: GM response / SRX issue / left out!

I'm not running anyone off by my posts....!

If GM would have said when I purchased the vehicle that there was a problem that was going to develop in 4 months and when you take it for repair, you would be turned down for a repair of that problem by 2 levels of GM management, along with the issue that they won't even recognize or admit that it is a problem and call it a "normal" sound of the vehicle because they have no idea what the source of the noise is.

If the post offends you, its quite possible you haven't had a issue with GM and the skirting/dodging they play to leave you hanging without a repair. I must say, this is my first issue, all other service repairs have been great. The dealership / shop I have no issues with....GM has tied their hands on getting to the bottom of the problem.

Nothing gained or lost by the post.....Beware I tought posts were strictly informational, read at your own risk.

Re: GM response / SRX issue / left out!

Hi!

Try having them look at the hangar bearing.

Hard to say if that would be the problem, but no harm in trying.

They had to replace the entire drive shaft and it was 1,250 plus labour but thank goodness it was warranty.

Have them put it on a hoist and run the vehicle when its cold. I had to leave mine at the dealer overnight.

Good luck

Re: GM response / SRX issue / left out!

I will stop by and see if they will look at that. Not sure of the response I'll get beings I've been told it's a "normal" sound. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks
