Last week I went to the stealership to check on the "check engine" light and they said the diagnostics stated it's a faulty battery, which needs a replacement, and they also had to reset the tire pressure monitors.
The light came back on after 24hrs so they said to bring the vehicle back. Now they say the two Catalytic Converters and the O2 sensors need to be replaced (cost is about 2k... oooooouch!)
Any feedback would be helpful. I was also wondering whether or not the PP Major Guard Extended Warranty cover this? I don't have it but was planning on getting it.

All emissions related parts are warranty covered for either 7/72 or 8/80. Check your manual for details on your model year car. O2 sensors and Cat Converters should be covered by this. |

It has 58,000 miles. I though the dealer warranty was over at 50K. Steined, you have given me hope! So, I should be able to find warranty info in the vehicle manual (under emissions)? |

Does anyone else find it curious that the dealer quoted a cost to repair when it's an emissions covered warranty item as stated in the owners manuals? |

O2 sensors should be too.

You owe us a beer or 200 in the money we possibly saved you! If I were you, I'd think about another dealer too. They should have covered that under the emissions warranty! |

I'm definitely going to change dealers after this! The Service Agent actually called me in the afternoon with the news about the emission warranty but he said I might have to pay for the 02 sensors and labor. He said he'll get back to me in the morning to let me know after he speaks to the technician.
Now I'm doubting everything they say! Is there a way that I can find out if 02 sensors are also covered (or can someone with access check for me)?
If its on warranty, does that include the labor expensive?
Beer on me for sure! |

I'd have to run your VIN on the rest.

I have a 05 SRX with 43k and I was driving it last week and it was hesitating when I went to accelerate. So I took it to the dealer and they said they were miss-fires and it it needed a new catalytic converter. So they fixed and I was back on the road in a few hours. and yes it was covered under the warranty at 100%. |

Beer on me for sure! | Cadillac warranty book says 7/70 on the O2's including parts and labor.
I'm stunned by the treatment you're getting ! ! !
The Service (HA HA) Agent gets information from the tech ? ? ? ?
No offense to the tech's, but if they must know the warranty in detail then what need is there for the SA ? ? ?
Give the tech's a big raise equivalent to 1/2 the SA earnings and fire the SA ! ! ! !
Tech's happy, customers happy, and dealer's happy to save on salary costs ! ! |

What is on the odo right now? | Thanks for your help (thanks to everyone on this thread).
I'm going to assume the odo is the milage (correct and forgive me if I'm wrong) is 58,400.
How should I send you my VIN number?
In the meantime, I'll be reading the Warranty PDF someone sent.
Thanks again folks!

Seems oxygen sensors are always blamed; and I guess they sometimes fail or lose accuracy. But in all my experience with mine and many friends' cars, I have never EVER seen one fail. We have replaced them hoping to clear up a problem, or improve smoothness, or because they had 200k miles on them; but it never made any difference at all.
If you have two bad at the same time, I would say either you just won the sensor lottery, or you really have a serious engine or fuel problem.
That being said, I guess if the cats totally came apart (both at the same time!) they could possibly throw bits of ceramic into the rear sensors and damage them.
But, they are easy to check on OBD2 systems with a scan tool. For the front sensors, just look for quick switching from about 0.2V to 0.8V when warm, and check fuel trims that stay within 5% or so of zero.
The rear sensors, behind the cats, are not nearly as active, and often indicate rich most of the time. They are there only to detect a different reading from the pre-cat sensors, just to monitor if the cats are doing their job. But if monitored, and expected to rapidly switch lean-to-rich like the front sensors, they would be deemed bad when they are not.

I was told by Service Agent, who never convinces me that he knows what he's talking about, that the O2's haaaaaaaaave to get replaced if the catalytic converters are replaced.
Keep in mind that they replaced the battery and reset all TPM's on the first visit and these new C.C. and O2 readings were not mentioned (or found). HMMMMMM
So, I'm not sure I won the Sensor Lottery just yet (hahaha).
