Here is my question; I live in Ohio and I have not had a chance to use the Ultra View other than just playing with it in the garage. On Monday of this week the temp got warm enough for me to open the roof. When I tried to shut it though it made it to about the half way mark and started slightly vibrating and then went back; I assume the safety kicked in and sent it back. I ended up getting it shut by pushing the button again when it got to the point it started going back. Do you think it just needs lubed or do you think I have a bigger problem? The roof does not leak but does creak (as others have commented in the forum) somewhat when driving down the road.
Thank you and l love reading all your comments! |

Mine even reverse's in the summer, but doesn't creak or rattle. I don't want to have it
looked at, and run the risk of getting it to close on it's own, only to get a rattle trap back.
Holding the switch down to close is just fine with me.
Welcome & Congrats

Like GMJim, I would be reluctant to have any work that requires removing any moving parts. Ours does not rattle and no wind noise when closed. '05 did a little shudder on occasion when closing. I open the shade first and then the Ultra-View. Close the Ultra-View and then close the shade. I know they are supposed to close and open together but the mo is just one of my idiosyncrasies. |

I push the switch then slightly push up and forward on the leading frame edge of the roof glass as it is closing. It then closes with this little bit of help. I am doing this vs any adjustments as mine is also leak free, rattle free, wind noise free.
Yours may be just a tad on the loose side if you hear it rattle, maybe lube and adjustement are justified - but I would wait till we really have warmer weather. |

I can live with and it agree with all of you that I am reluctant to get it looked at. I assumed it was the goofy Ohio weather; 65 one day and 10 the next. Also I should point out that it really doesn’t rattle of creak that much or loudly. As my wife and kids say, I have bionic hearing and they can’t hear anything; I’m just being picky I guess. Thanks again, Frank |

Mine was replaced under warranty (04 N* AWD). It still creaks a bit when cold. Real issue is when water freezes on the roof and ice fills the gaps between the glass and weatherstripping. Then it is much more noisy! Pray for sun and warm weather. Then you will really love it.
Kind regards,

I had the same exact problem. It worked wonders. The thing opens with no issues whatsoever now and seems to have gotten quiter. Not to mention it opens so much more quickly now. I don't know if they also adjusted it or not. They also performed the diff seal recall work while I was there.
The dealer was Thomson MacConnell in Cincinnati and they did top notch work. I got to drive an 08 3.6 DI Sport STS as a loaner which was also very impressive and nice! Cadillac is stepping up their game! |

As I stated, I have only had the car since it has been cold and I think this is why I hear a little noise here and there. Mine now has 1700 miles on it and I do need to get it in for service because the rear windshield wiper squirt does not work (seems to be clogged) and I also received the recall on the diff.
My next question is it seems that every time someone on the forum takes their Caddy in for service, they get a new Caddy loaner car. Is this a Cadillac thing or a dealer thing? I ended up buying my new Caddy 400 miles away from my house because I just had to have it equipped the way I wanted it and none of my local dealers really wanted to work with me or let’s say they would for an extremely inflated price. I ended up going on GMbuypower my self and found the car I wanted and made the deal over the phone and had it shipped right to my door. The only problem with this that now I need to find a dealer that will service my ride. As it runs out, my best friend owned a Chevy dealer and sold it to a local dealer that already owns a Chevy/Caddy dealer. I know the service manager well (good guy and takes care of me) and as of a few years ago, GM now lets you and the dealer take all their brands; I plan on taking it to him even though this particular store only has Chevy (they currently service my other GM toys (Vette, Z28, Trailblazer, Grand Prix). Long story short:
1. Should they give me a Caddy for a loaner
2. What are your thought on a Chevy dealer working on my new Caddy (keep in mind this dealer has a Caddy dealership 5 miles up the road). |

First time dealer used a lube which caused the same issue at cold temperatures. I brought the car to a different dealer and they told me the wrong lubricant was applied. They used silicone based lube which worked significantly better regardless of cold or warm weather.
My experience is that Cadillac work shops are not very well trained, I also believe there is a real lack of quality assurance procedures. I hope I am not offending anyone (e.g. ewill3rd) - it's just my personal experience. I very much dislike the inconsistencies in quality and service between dealers. |

The dealer is not obligated to give you a Cadillac loaner....just a loaner. Most of the time I get a caddy, but did get a Gran Prix because all the Caddis were out. NBD.
Find a good dealer and stick with them. All have the ability to look up TSB's on the web. Get to know the service staff and they should treat you well.
Kind regards,

I thought being a belligerent, arrogant, prima-donna who belittled the service advisor, and trashed the product & company was the way to go. |

So don't feel bad. Turns out, if you are nice to people, they are usually (not always) nice back and aim to please.
I have found that telling your advisor that you are a big shot and your $XXXXX.00 car sucks, and so does his service, does nothing more than make the advisor realize that your car cost as much as his house.
Give my way a shot! |

I bought my SRX in Ohio - and live in Minnesota - so at first the dealer was reluctant about service - but when we talked - I spoke nice - they were accomidating. My biggest issue is to try and talk nice - and unlike many - I think I understand most of the issues (thanks to this board) and only wish they would listen a little better. I had the cam phasors go bad - told them I had a TSB and it fit the problem - they just ignored me and waited for the area rep to check it out. Oh well, at this point my servicing dealer has been good. Not that it matters - but another in my area has a Saturn, the dealership (Saturn only) treats him like a precious stone. I really think each dealership and its management can very so much - I am willing to travel to others if I don't like them (for service). As far as buying - may the best price win. (I saved 1000's on my SRX by shopping around and use of the internet of course) | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
