Great news! However, I assume Cadillac will only sell/distribute the updated DVD directly through its dealership network?

Re: Another Nav diagnostic code

Can anyone tell me how to activate the voice recognition function for my 2002 Deville DTS navigation/radio system. When I hit the button on the steering wheel the voice refers, only, to a cell phone function. I don't have a cell phone connected in my car. Also, how can I disable that function?

From what I understand, your assumption is probably valid. Gotta go to the dealer....

Too bad. I really hate my dealer and would prefer not to allow them to make a profit on me. It would also be alot more convenient to just order it from a web site and have it delivered! Oh well...

But thanks again for the info!

Re: Another Nav diagnostic code

Terpnut,
I'm sure there are other dealers who will be happy to sell it to you over the phone or the internet. Any Caddy dealer should be able to order it and sell it to any customer.

Good point. Now that you mention it, I have gotten some BMW and Honda OEM parts in the past from dealers with good web sites and customer service. But now the question is: What Caddy dealers offer low prices and good service via the web?

I just called my dealer in McHenry Illinois and you are correct. The CD is back ordered at this time. The part # you gave is correct. My dealer quoted me a price of $270. They also assured me that it is in fact the CD that is installed in "most" 2005's and it will work in the 2004's.

Re: Another Nav diagnostic code

Thanks to all, again, for continuing to try and gain some ground on this. We just recently bought an Acura TL with Nav that still nags you in the beginning BUT it allows you (the passenger) to navigate on the go. That's nice! Especially since it cost 10K less than the SRX.

I picked up the new DVD (V4.0) last night (pretty good for being backordered). It was the correct one and while it certainly didn't change the functionality of the unit, the updates to the maps are very welcome. There seem to be many more points of interest listed and it corrected some obviously incorrect data from V3.0. So far, so good...

Cheers!

Re: Another Nav diagnostic code

In regards to the In-Dash Nav units in GM vehicles:

I work for one of 9 companies that are licensed to repair these products OEM.
Let me state that the Nav unit that goes in the dash is a Delphi product and the entire inner workings of the KIWI-W Mapping system is a Japanese consortium.
(Major Web Search Hint there folks)
Search for ZENRIN & KIWI-W and you'll start to get a clearer picture of what's going on.

Denso only licenses the right to use it, as does Delphi & Visteon..
This is NOT a Denso unit, sorry, you're wrong.
(That's why everything is labeled in English.)

I've been to the Delphi Facility in Michigan where these are produced, so trust me, any claims from Denso that they "Made" this for GM is utterly Bull.
The only unit they supply so far is for the Cadillac STS.

Here's some quick tech facts:
The programming is stored inside the micros, no, there's no HD, there's also absolutely no code on the Nav Disc either.

What you're seeing on the disc is a Database folks.
Anyone remember what a Schema is?

The .KWI extension designates that it's using the KIWI-W format for it's databasing.

The loader.kwi is most probably either the compression algorithm, a schema file or loads the various zones stored.
The disc is broken down into 7 zones last time I checked on Ver. 3.

There's not enough memory in the radio to load all that data, so it loads chunks at a time by zone. The Loader.kwi appears to be the Schema for the zones.

As far as the Key pad codes go: They keep updating the firmware, so you're going to have a very hard time finding something that works for everyone.

Here's why:
Mike has Radio A, Paul has Radio B, Sue has Radio C.

Mike's radio Breaks, I take one off our shelf that's at firmware version 1.1 and send it to him, he returns the defective core, which is re-manufactured OEM and flashed with the newest updates to bring the REV level to current.

Paul's radio breaks 3 months later, assume firmware 1.0.
I send him another with firmware 1.2 because of improvements and REVs.

Sue's radio breaks 3 months after Paul's.
I send her Firmware 1.3 because of improvements, REVs.

Mike had 1.0 but now has 1.1.
Paul had 1.0 but has 1.2.
Sue had 1.0 but now has 1.3.

See the problem?
No, don't ask for codes.

BTW: There is another disc that no one seems to have mentioned here:
There's a master disc from General Motors for ALL GM Nav units for the United States and Canada...

Hint:
That disc does NOT contain a loader.kwi file, but several smaller directories with .bin files.

BTW: The rear seat entertainment center in that post IS a Visteon piece.
Ford and Visteon separated long ago and there's Visteon units in everything from GM to Isuzu, Suzuki to Nissan.
There's Delphi pieces all over the place, including Ford Vehicles, since they separated from AC Delco long ago.

Any more specific information would violate my job position but I hope I helped you guys figure out just where to "Sniff".

FIDGAF, thanks for the great information and pointing us in the right direction. Is this master disc orderable from Cadillac parts? I'm assuming this GM master disc does not have any integration with the SRX (e.g. driver information) but offers relief from some of our stated "hassles"?

Re: Another Nav diagnostic code

Is Delphi (Or could be an AC Delco GM number) Part #15105609 (86271-70V581) orderable...
You do mean the "General Motors DVD ROM Version 3.0 United States \ Canada Map Disc" right?
Hmmmm.
I'm not 100% sure...

You might ask These people if it's available...
Maybe even the dealer.
It never hurts to ask around...

SonarTech there seems to be a problem with your server. Could you post the pictures somewhere else or email them to me at fitman@gmail.com.

Thanks in advance.
Aghs! Sorry, guys, I took this share down a long time ago due to a lack of activity, and the fact I stopped caring about this POS Nav system. I'll bring the page back up today. The pictures will be available as follows:

http://www.meltybrain.org/NAVSYS/WING_PCB.JPG

That's all of them.

Don't know what they'll do for anyone; we've already established that the firmware is embedded, which leaves with few options for modifying this piece of shit. I've basically given up on trying to do anything useful with this Nav, and I won't be paying the loveless, money-grubbing fisticles at GM another red cent for the "priviledge" of acknowledging the security warning everytime I start my car, or by paying $270 for mediocre 2+ year-old database upgrades to a system I already purchased the right to use - COMPLETELY. SET _DoneWith_GM=1

Long Live 1791. To hell with all the rest.

So tell me. Was it really with 300 smacks? Microsoft updates Streets and Trips yearly. It's database is WAY more up-to-date, and it has thousands more POI's than the "Rotten KIWI, non-Denso" Denso system.... it only costs $40.00 (less an additional $10 if you use the rebate for buying last year's version). GM knows they have a captive audience, so they screw us Cadillac owners yearly because they know they can. GM needs some data provider competition in the worst way. $300 for a $2 DVD and ~$50 worth of new data, < .5% of which you'll ever use.

[Now Do Rant]

If you think about it, OnStar's just as bad. Technically, OnStar's a cellular telephone system, meaning it's subject to the same FCC laws as regular cell phones. Ever tried to "take" your OnStar's cell phone number with you when you sell you car? By FCC law, you can - Providers are REQUIRED to let you. According to OnStar, you can't, because you "don't own it." Funny, I have a receipt right here that says I paid for it!

Ever try taking the Analog IMEI number off your OnStar system and ask Verizon to activate your car's phone for your personal use WITHOUT paying the OnStar middleman 400% more for minutes that expire? It's your equipment, right? It's YOUR IMEI, right? Wrong... It's OnStar's. It PROPRIETARY. (Actually, OnStar's illegally blocked these IMEI's on Verizon's system so even Verizon reps can't look at or release them - and even if they could, who in the hell still sells ANALOG SERVICE PLANS?!! HAHAHAHA!... Hmmm... Something stinks here, and I think it's GM.

[End Rant]

I truly hope you feel the DVD update was worth it, Dechief.

Remember: OnStar's WORTH IT for Piece Of Mind, right? I mean, they'll call the ambulance FOR YOU when you crash into that tree or telephone pole --- provided the crash didn't:

A) Kill your battery (The Onstar power supply)
B) Kill the Onstar system by breaking or damaging any one of 13 different wiring harnesses
C) Break off the OnStar cellular antenna
D) All of the above...

Eh, that'll never happen.... What the likelyhood you'll actually break a critical OnStar component when you crash?!?! NAAAAAAHhhhhhh... DEFINITELY worth $200 or more each year... AND, THEY'LL EVEN HELP THE POLICE LOCATE YOUR STOLEN CADDIE!!! --- Uhhhh, that is, provided the thief didn't:

A) Unscrew that 'ol pesky OnStar Cellular antenna (or just cut the wire to it!)
B) Unplug or cut the GPS antenna located in the trunk
C) Rip-out the OnStar wiring going to the rear view mirror which would very likely kill (or short-out) the entire OnStar system
D) All of the above...
