In regards to the In-Dash Nav units in GM vehicles:
I work for one of 9 companies that are licensed to repair these products OEM.
Let me state that the Nav unit that goes in the dash is a Delphi product and the entire inner workings of the KIWI-W Mapping system is a Japanese consortium.
(Major Web Search Hint there folks)
Search for ZENRIN & KIWI-W and you'll start to get a clearer picture of what's going on.
Denso only licenses the right to use it, as does Delphi & Visteon..
This is NOT a Denso unit, sorry, you're wrong.
(That's why everything is labeled in English.)
I've been to the Delphi Facility in Michigan where these are produced, so trust me, any claims from Denso that they "Made" this for GM is utterly Bull.
The only unit they supply so far is for the Cadillac STS.
Here's some quick tech facts:
The programming is stored inside the micros, no, there's no HD, there's also absolutely no code on the Nav Disc either.
What you're seeing on the disc is a Database folks.
Anyone remember what a Schema is?
The .KWI extension designates that it's using the KIWI-W format for it's databasing.
The loader.kwi is most probably either the compression algorithm, a schema file or loads the various zones stored.
The disc is broken down into 7 zones last time I checked on Ver. 3.
There's not enough memory in the radio to load all that data, so it loads chunks at a time by zone. The Loader.kwi appears to be the Schema for the zones.
As far as the Key pad codes go: They keep updating the firmware, so you're going to have a very hard time finding something that works for everyone.
Here's why:
Mike has Radio A, Paul has Radio B, Sue has Radio C.
Mike's radio Breaks, I take one off our shelf that's at firmware version 1.1 and send it to him, he returns the defective core, which is re-manufactured OEM and flashed with the newest updates to bring the REV level to current.
Paul's radio breaks 3 months later, assume firmware 1.0.
I send him another with firmware 1.2 because of improvements and REVs.
Sue's radio breaks 3 months after Paul's.
I send her Firmware 1.3 because of improvements, REVs.
Mike had 1.0 but now has 1.1.
Paul had 1.0 but has 1.2.
Sue had 1.0 but now has 1.3.
See the problem?
No, don't ask for codes.
BTW: There is another disc that no one seems to have mentioned here:
There's a master disc from General Motors for ALL GM Nav units for the United States and Canada...
Hint:
That disc does NOT contain a loader.kwi file, but several smaller directories with .bin files.
BTW: The rear seat entertainment center in that post IS a Visteon piece.
Ford and Visteon separated long ago and there's Visteon units in everything from GM to Isuzu, Suzuki to Nissan.
There's Delphi pieces all over the place, including Ford Vehicles, since they separated from AC Delco long ago.
Any more specific information would violate my job position but I hope I helped you guys figure out just where to "Sniff".
