Let me say that I would find it HIGHLY unusual for any executable code to be stored on the Nav DVD. As a software engineer in the auto industry, I've never come across a system that doesn't store the executable code exclusively in the onboard flash on the micro.
A more complex system such as NAV may have external flash to store its code.
As for flash upgrades, they are usually done over the vehicle network. I have never worked on NAV thought so perhaps its done through a DVD. The DVD system linked to on our web page is from the Malibu MAXX, and I beleive we also supply the RSE for the GMT360s. Its not any wierder for GM to purchase systems from us than it is for Ford to purchase from Delphi. |

Scott | Absolutely! I didn't have that in mind when I proposed the bottle of bourbon but you're right, the people that break the code should have some added incentive. I'm all for a reward for these "heroes" of hacking. We all pay money for conveniences and extras in cars so why not for extra features that the dealer doesn't, or won't, offer. I'll convert my offer of bourbon to an offer of cash. I'd gladly contribute $50 to someone who offered me a way to plot courses "on the road" and to avoid the nag screen. From what I've seen of other's offers, we could get quite a bit of cash together for the winner, at least enough to buy a nice meal out for two. I'm willing to contribute to the "x prize" on this and encourage others to do so. Keep Hackin'!

Too bad there's no way I'd be the one to find the code. I WILL try putting in random codes when I'm driving in traffic though - always worth a shot for a nice tat. |

For allowing "on road navigation"
sgilbert - $20
LymanSS - $20
caringserv - $10
riegern - $50
srx newbie - Tattoo
me3head - $5
dripps - $20
For simply eliminating the Nagrivation warning:
LymanSS - $10
sgilbert - $10
We should try to keep track of this. Now everyone has some incentive, even if they have to try random codes and hope to hit the jackpot. Good luck everyone!

I will offer at least $20 for this convenience.....if I had to BUY it and this option was availabe for xxx dollars I'm sure I'd be considering even MORE of an investment. This would be HUGE!! |

It appears that the new nav unit has omitted the DVD code or changed it. they are really afraid of being sued.
As I start to talk to the account manager's at Denso (the US based car dealer reps), I want to have some valued comments to discuss with them. NOt just bitching and give me the damn codes type stuff, but some positive criticism about what the users of their products want. This can help them upsell to the manufactureres, or atleast talk to them about what their customers want. This is something I do in sales in general.
Examples of this could be the navigation bypass code, but others would be things like the code to disengage the tire pressure monitor (when you remove those from the wheels), RCA input, custom configuration screen layout, etc.
Think about the things that you do not like about the DENSO unit and I will start another threat called DENSO Unit Likes and Dislikes. When I get a good enough list, I will then do a vote so we can see what is the most important.
This is a side project for me and I travel a lot (plus have a very young kid) so be patient. If nothing else, we can get our voice heard as users to improve newer versions of the product (or we get nothing and try something else).
Sound Good? look for the new post

I have a Garmin that I use on my motor home and the one feature that I feel is most important is the ability to program routs via my computer and then load them into the GPS. However, when you start a like and dislike thread I'll be contributing.

When you refer to comments about the Denso unit, I'm a bit confused. It seems like you are seeking comment on ALL electronic vehicle interface functions from the display and not just the navigation system, right? I'm a little unclear as to how Denso incorporates the vehicle information system stuff in with the navigation system.
Personally, as most of you already know, I'm most interested in disengaging the highly intrusive and annoying disclaimer and "safety feature" that prevents routing and other nav features while the vehicle is moving. Also I want Denso to expose all the system information screens (e.g. vehicle speed, latitude/longitude, altitude, satellite locations, signal strength, etc.). Thanks! |

I am pinging around denso to get some traction as a group wanting a better product in the long and short term. As i build up a relationship with whomever at denso, they may be able to help us get some things we really want (codes).
Nav is not the only thing of annoyance in this denso unit. it is just one group of annoyances that they have addressed with the next version going into the CTS by OEMing software from Tele atlas http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...18/255370.html
I am acting as a liaison between Denso and Caddyforum in order to help them better understand what it is we all want.
I hope this better helps why I want other things as well. I want this to be a 2 way street, or else we get nothing, right?

Date of release is Julian 4260 (although I don't have my Julian calendar converter, that makes it on or about Sep 20, 2004). The part number is 10389450 with a list price of $297.43. I will post more once it's in and I can verify it is, in fact, the correct DVD for our systems. I was told that this is the new DVD that is being installed in the new 05 builds.
Cheers!

Bill | Bill,
There is no need to apologize for the delay. I was only trying to make sure that the feedback you get is within your scope, i.e. Nav only or anything to do with Denso OEM unit, and you've answered the question as the latter.. Thanks again and good luck. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
