I took apart ALLDATA.KWI this evening. * Y U K *
I think this says it all: or maybe this

Do you guys have any idea how much of a pain in the ass it is toy around with a 3 Gig file? Man.... "Ass Rape" doesn't quite describe what it was doing to my 3GHz P4, 1G RAM, SATA HD, Me, UltraEdit and 2 hours. Sheesh... I knew it would suck, but this was even worse than ripping DVD's.

ANYWAY, here's what I found...

ALLDATA.KWI is about 55% badly (or should I say "cheaply") compressed vector data, 35% road names (uncompressed unicode) and 10% fluff (crap I couldn't figure out). Just for shits and giggles, I did a search for Unicode and ASCII versions of the text "1791" and came up with well over 100 hits. Sadly, none of them appear to have squat to do with the NavOS - they're all road names, vector data or index values, etc...

Here's a VERY small sampling of some of the types of data structs living within ALLDATA.KWI - (I spared you the other 3,285,649,981 bytes worth because I care...)

Fun, huh? NOT. Anyway, I couldn't find any "code" inside the monster file, so I'm still convinced the answer(s) lives somewhere within LOADING.KWI.

I'm going to bed now. Good night.

STS2(SS) out.

Re: Another Nav diagnostic code

The NavDVD squished down to 2.19GB, well within the range of a DVD-R.

Re: Another Nav diagnostic code

Well, I finally got a copy of the Navigation system DVD, but it cost me nearly $50,000 (yeah, we decided to buy the car, in spite of the nav system issues ). Actually what convinced me I could live with the nav system was that you can navigate to POI's while moving if you do it by voice recognition. Our chief use of nav while moving is to find things like nearby restaurants.
Quote:
Copy protection on ALLDATA.KWI?
...
Of course, maybe my DVD's F'd-up. Can anyone confirm this error when trying to copy ALLDATA.KWI to their hard drive?
I can confirm get the same error trying to copy alldata.kwi. I'm making my ISO image (estimated 57 minutes!) right now. I believe the DVD is 8.5Gbytes, btw, not 5.8Gb. Definitely dual layer, which may make it hard to do experiments without buying a pricey new dual layer DVD burner. Then we have to make sure that it will really read dual layer DVD+RW media.
However, I'm frankly wonder now whether the executables are on the DVD at all. There are a lot of computer in modern automobiles, and I'd guess that their software is in ROM or EPROM (probably flash RAM) -- I would hope the truely critical stuff is in ROM. I would expect that something as complicated as the Denso is flash and can be reprogrammed -- but that doesn't necessarily mean that every Nav DVD has the programming. It could require a special factory CD. This is probably where someone with the shop manual could give us some helpful advice.
I did take a quick look at LOADING.KWI, and it might indeed contain executables. From the looks of it there are several distinct executable sections with date stamps and strings like (substituting spaces for 0's):
MIUT MEMORY OS MEMORY Ver2.30 99/02/01
The next trick is probably to figure out what OS it uses. VxWorks would be my first guess based on some of the material I've seen concerning the SH-3, but there are other choices.
Btw, there are several sequences of 1791 (i.e. 0x06 followed by 0xFF) in LOADING.KWI. A more careful analysis of what they mean will require better tools (like a good SH-3 disassembler).

Re: Another Nav diagnostic code

Your information matches my analysis almost exactly. I have successfully extracted ALLDATA.KWI from an ISO of the DVD, and I'll run an analysis of the DVD mastering tomorrow since I now know the oddities are not limited to my copy. All of the files on the DVD (extracted from an ISO of the DVD) total 5.71 GB (6,139,966,335 bytes) in 108 files, 1 folder. My AllData.KWI is 3.01 GB (3,241,304,065 bytes) itself. I'm guessing your DVD is newer than mine to justify the rather substantial size increase? I suppose I could try and generate MD5 checksums from the ISO and from the DVD, but I suspect the mastering glitch would cloud my results. Funny how the error isn't preserved in the ISO image I made. I successfully and painlessly extracted all of the files from the ISO after I created it, and to the best of my investigative abilities, they look like matches.

Since I disassembled my NavSystem (see http://www.meltybrain.com/NAVSYS for pictures), I now firmly believe that there is in fact FlashRAM involved here, simply because text found inside LOADING.KWI is present as part of the radio controls even when the NavDVD's not loaded. My favorite part of LOADING.KWI contains the following text:

Re: Another Nav diagnostic code

I would think that most code resides in on-chip FLASH.

Re: Another Nav diagnostic code

SonarTech, CBF, etc.,

I haven't a clue what you are talking about, but support your efforts tremendously.

I don't want you "geeks" to think we're out here not paying attention to what y'all are up to. Just sitting here on the side-lines watching, waiting, hoping, and praying you "In-the-know" types can crack the NAV and save us from the Big GM CYA big-wigs.

Keep up the good work.

Re: Another Nav diagnostic code

Sonartech -

My 8.5Gbyte number for the DVD is the size of the ISO image, not the files after extracting. I haven't bothered extracting ALLDATA.LWI because we're pretty sure that doesn't contain code. So LOADING.KWI is the only interesting file.

LOADING.KWI is the same size, but I'll have to do a comparison with the old one to see if it's identical.

Re: Another Nav diagnostic code

Has anyone figured out how to remove the safety feature from the denso navigation system yet?

I have these codes
1971
917
1790
1791

None of those codes work to enable routing while driving.

Email me too!

thanks
mike

Re: Another Nav diagnostic code

What do 917 and 1790 do? I've used both 1971 and 1791 successfully on my DTS. Do the other two do anything I should know about?

Re: Another Nav diagnostic code

Ditto here! I've never gotten 1971 to do anything---what can you make it do?

What are 917 & 1790 for? When did these slip into the thread?

1971 doesn't seem to work for SRX nav systems but it works on my Deville. It gets you into the Nav system diagnostics, providing info on things like the GPS signal, the screen setup and stuff like that. I have no idea what those other two do. I'll try them out today and see if i notice anything.

Re: Another Nav diagnostic code

1971 does not work on my '03 Deville. 1791 is the only valid code I've ever seen.

Re: Another Nav diagnostic code

Why are you guys searching for the code to enable dvd-video play in the map dvd?

We don't have map dvds over here but we still get the navi in xlr's. The code works without a map dvd.

Most of us are waiting/searching for the "holy grail" of codes--the code to disable the Nav system's "safety" and/or the disclaimer.
