Cold GPS Nav Display Issue?

Remove this ad
When our SRX is cold, it takes quite some time for the navigation display to brighten up. It's a 2004....can take over 10 minutes to be readable.

Has anyone resolved this issue? we're not going to move south!

Thanks
DaveL

Re: Cold GPS Nav Display Issue?

Mine is perfect immediately; even at -10F. Are you out of warranty? (I've got 2 months to go)

Re: Cold GPS Nav Display Issue?

We still have warranty; dealer has looked at it, and repaired a cold-solder joint on the circuit board.

LCD displays use a type of fluorescent lighting. Just like a fluorescent light, it can eventually wear out and have more difficulty starting up in cold temps. But this is unlikely in a car because of the limited use, but you never know. Either way, it is not normal and if you have a warranty, I'd get it fixed.

Re: Cold GPS Nav Display Issue?

My 2005 SRX had the exact same problem. I traded it in last week and I now have an 2008 SRX so I never got to understand what the problem cause has been. It started to bug me though, and if I had not traded it in I would have gotten it fixed.

With the 08 SRX I have the opposite problem, when the display is in auto-mode (instead of day mode or night mode) it's too bright and I have to adjust the dash board lighting down which makes everything else dim.

Can't Read Nav in cold

Still have this problem. Dealer has had the car twice!!

You can't read the nav screen for at least 15 minutes in the cold. It's so bad we've taken the Garmin Nuvi out of another car.

Any ideas would help.

IIRC the headlight switch is in the "auto" position.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
DaveL

I believe you can go into the settings and adjust your default brightness for when it is in auto mode.

Anyone fix the cold weather=no display problem? Driving me nuts! Dealer has no clues.

Re: Cold GPS Nav Display Issue?

DaveL: this is not a perma fix, but did you try the voice prompt yelling "screen day mode" ? forcing unit to switch from nite to day. I'm pretty fine with it I kicked the auto mode. However, screen settings for both day and night have to be adjusted and programmed when finished, hold "1" button until chime (I consider you use key fob "1")

Re: Cold GPS Nav Display Issue?

Thanks AB! SRX is on its way to Fallingwater House. I'll check when it gets back.
