I did it all behind the dash, spliced the harness, mounted the SIR-GM1 and mounted the antenna under the dash.
Only 6 wires and no power tap, the power is in the factory harness.
Bed time now.

I had to install it in the back and it was a pain in the ass because I had to take all the molding out. |

He speaks the truth, I will post it all later today when the kids are in bed. The SIR-GM1 fits to the right of the radio, the antenna between the vents under the dash and yes the CD harness splice was done.
Give me some time and I will post.
Thanks Matt |

This is assuming you have RSE
The pin outs are from another post and the picture is from Yaemish (very helpful)
Tools needed
Soldering iron
Wire cutter/stripper
Sharp knife
SDAR interface harness from SIR-GM1
7mm, 10mm socket
Phillips screwdriver (short one or 90 degree)
Print out of stuff below
Pull out your center vents, I had to pull real hard and use a screwdriver to get it started in the sides. Flip it up on to the dash
Pull out ashtray insert, undo 7mm bolt about 5cm in the hole you see.
Pull out HVAC controls, same as vents pull hard. Let it hang into the drivers foot well.
Undo 4 10mm bolts, put a pad on the shifter to rest the radio on while you unplug everything then set the radio aside.
Find the white 16 pin harness the was plugged into he passenger side of the radio, make two cuts with the striper on each of the following wires then cut off the cover with the knife.
Cut the white connector off the SIR-GM1 harness, cut back some of the cover and you will see the grounds spliced together cut one off.
Now all you have to do is match the picture with the harness pin outs, I am colour blind so I use position not colour.
Wrap the wire around, solder and tape.
Now pull the glove box liner out a bit so you can get your hand in above, pop the SIR-GM1 in harness side up and get it in the area beside the radio.
Put the antenna on top of the vents in the middle, stuff it in far so it is wedged into the padding a bit. Put all but about 24" or so of the wire under the vents, run the rest down to the SIR-GM1 and plug it in.
Plug in the harness you spliced.
Plug in the radio and test, you should get CH 184 if you do your good put it together.
Write down the ESN and activate, you have to have it on so make sure you are ready or do a delayed activation online.

I am planning on knocking this project out this weekend or rather attempting it. !hat do I need to do differently if I have bose, nav, and no rse please. conedoctor and yameish are the best. |

| | Cadillac Owners Fanatic Cadillac(s): 04 SRX AWD V8 | | | | | Re: Sirius done in 04 SRX NAV/RSE If you don't have RSE I would think the 3 digital audio wires are not there, you would need to add the left, right and common then get your dealer to tell your radio you have digital audio. You should be able to just add pins to the factory plug, not sure on the part# for the pins.
The class II and power should be there for the CD player.
I have not had any drop out so far but I don't think I will have any problems, I have it set up almost the same way in my Sierra and I have had ZERO reception problems in over a year. I was also in the garage when I hooked it up and it was still fine, I just don't want some stupid wire and antenna on the roof of my car. |

It should also be mentioned that nothing needs to be done in terms of programming your radio. My SRX did not come with the XM option and when I connected the power to the SIR-GM1, the radio picked it up immediately.
It should be noted that the radio shows as XM1 and XM2 and there is no way to change that. But one the bright side, the seek controls on the steering wheel work with the unit (they didn't work with my Seville install; though I think I can fix it). |

Two (very minor) complaints I have: 1. Only a 16 character display when Sirius gives 32. 2. Presets show P1-P6 instead of the Sirius Channel #, it would be really cool if it would show the artist/song in that spot... Anyway, the better sound quality and having the steering wheel controls blow my previous, external, FM transmitter solution away. |

Put the antenna under the dash I say. |

Its the round antenna as opposed to the small ssquare one (its kind of ugly though). When I say it works better, it doesn't always drop when driving under a bridge. |
