| | Cadillac Owners Fanatic | | | | | Extended Warranty from a Distant Dealer My 2004 SRX comes off warranty in a couple of months. I am thinking about keeping it for a couple of years and purchasing an extended warranty. I have read that some people have saved money by purchasing the extended warranty from a dealer far from their home, perhaps through the internet.
My concern is that my dealer will not be amenable to repairing my SRX with an extended warranty purchased from a distant dealer. Has anyone had any experience with this.
I am also interested in opinions of the financial feasibility of purchasing an extended warranty. I am concerned about the potential cost of repairing the ultraview roof, nav system and other electronics. Thanks for your answers. |

Go to any dealer and purchase a GMPP (general motors protection plan) This is the best warranty available to you. Most aftermarket warranties don't cover what you really need them for, dont cost much less than GMPP, and are dificult to deal with when you do need them. The GMPP covers rentals for repairs that take longer than two technician working hours, and is as close to factory warranty as you are going to get. Spend the extra $ and get the best. You won't be disapointed.
As someone who has had to deal with some other warranty to fix someones car. most other warranties are a B to deal with. GMPP is easy for you and the dealer to use. |

I bought mine from Black Pontiac in Pennsylvania, I think they used to be a supporting vendor. They tied for the best price I could find, but I bought from them because, being out of state, they didn't charge sales tax, which saved quite a bit. Plus they sell out of state all the time and had a simple process. I would recommend 0 deductible. I bought a $200 deductible one to save some money, but it has cost me more because I don't take it in for a lot of small things (like a torn window seal) that is right at the deductible. I bought it because of the MRC, Ultraview, and such, but wish I had the 0 (or maybe $50) to take care of everything. |

Don't buy unless it's a GM warranty.

Sometimes a GMPP will be sold outside of warranty if you are only out by time, but it's a gamble. the sooner you buy, the less expensive it is. |

| | Cadillac Owners Fanatic | | | | | Re: Extended Warranty from a Distant Dealer Thanks for all the info. Yes, I was talking about purchasing a GMPP warranty from a dealer other than where I purchased my car. I just want to be sure if I do that my dealer will still provide me excellent service. I did get the price from the GM Automall Link above, and I will see how much less that is than 'list' price. My plan is to go with Major Guard for 36 months/3 years. I will do it just before my original warranty is up. Many thanks to all. |

Why would a dealer care where it was purchased from? As long as it's registered in the computer when you bring it in for service they will care less where it was purchased from. I did this with my Chevy prior to buying my SRX. I intend to do this again in June for the SRX. |

| | Cadillac Owners Fanatic Cadillac(s): 2007 SRX | | | | | Re: Extended Warranty from a Distant Dealer This is an exercise that I went through with my 04 SRX. I also had a quote from Black. I took my price and divided it by the mileage to figure out a per mile cost and decided that it was not worth it. Think about that as the miles fly by on the highway and each one adds x amount of dollars to your trip. In my case it was $80.00 extra every trip to see my grandkids and it just didn't make sense to me.
It is really an insurance policy. How long are you going to keep the vehicle and can you take one big hit if something happens?
I know that you are going to hear from every person that had something go wrong and in fact would have taken the hit but you aren't going to hear from the people who paid that money and got nothing for it! | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
