'05 V6 RWD going through front tires?

Remove this ad
I have gone through a set of front tires between 5,000 and 10,000 miles since buying this car (17" staggered sizes). the last allignment was about 12,000 miles ago, and this latest set of tires (Continental Cross Contact LX just over 10,000 miles) is now chewed up on the inside edge of both sides and sounds like a mud-runner going down the road. I ran it through GM customer service, who said that the regional service manager and the dealer service manager both state that the car is "performing as expected" without even inspecting the car (they never even put it on the rack to check it). So in a nutshell, they tell me that because the tires can't be rotated, it's ok to go through front tires every 5,000 -10,000 miles!!! Has anyone else had similar experience, or any advice to offer?

Re. '05 V6 RWD going through front tires?

Nonsense. Have the alignment checked.

I now have 23,668 miles on the original Michelins, and there is still enough thread left to drive safely for quite a few more miles.

2005, V6, AWD, 18" wheels, 30,400 miles. Still on original Michelins with about 1/8" tread remaining at most worn area. Front tires wearing faster than rear. Outside "band" of both front tires wearing slightly faster than rest of tire. FYI - original brakes as well.

Re: '05 V6 RWD going through front tires?

05 V6 RWD 32,600 miles on orignal tires, fronts are worn on the inside and outside edge but still have 5k+ in them (18" Michelins) Sound like your SRX has a toe issue, excessive toe out will cause rapid inner edge wear and the "mud truck" noise you describe.

Re: '05 V6 RWD going through front tires?

04 V6 with 17" original setup. Replaced front at 45k with OEM tire. Rear is worn at 48.6k but still passed the inspection. Due for replacement next year I think.

Go to the dealer and ask not to jerk you around, It's ridiculous.
