Smile Rear Jack Leak "really" Solved !

Had my 2004 SRX at the greatest car dealership there is, King O' Rourke Cadillac in Smithtown NY to dig into this rear jack leak issue. They found it ! According to the service notes:

" Found leak from 3rd brake light mounting bolts, bolt rusted closed , drilled out bolt and replaced 3rd brake lamp housing. Sent to body shop to paint to match installed new 3rd brake light housing and seals with new bolts and rear liftgate weatherstrip seal. Water tested and no more leaks. Replaced rear carpets."

Now that is Cadillac service ! I have owned this SRX for 4 years and this has been the biggest problem with the car. King O' Rourke Cadillac did a great job and Cadillac stood behind there product. So, for any of you fellow SRX owners experencing wet carpet in the rear jack area, print this out and give to your service managers.

The SRX has been a great car and drives like new. We plan to keep it until we top 200,000 miles !! Or, until the new SRX replacement ( CTS Wagon ? ) comes out.

I had the same service done including the new 3rd brake housing-new rear light-new paint- new weatherstripping-new carpets about 3 months ago. It's not really wet back there yet but it is damp in that area. I still think they all leak but most leaks are undiscovered unless you access the jack which is a very rare occurrence.

Same for me.
So far bone dry for me, and I had a couple of inches of standing water!

AMENDMENT--Just checked mine again-Not damp anymore, seemed drier than it was although the car gas not been in the rain much, if any, the last few weeks. Maybe it was the third brake lamp!

Re: Rear Jack Leak "really" Solved !

Hope that was the answer but just looking at the tailgate makes it seem unlikely. The tail light is nestled entirely in the door, the door drains are on the bottom outside the weather seal which allows water to run off the bumper. Nothing I can see would drain water into the interior whether from the light, rear window washer or faulty door seal. Rubber ducky would be more suspect for leaks into the cabin than the taillight as I see it.
Has anyone removed the tailgate interior trim and poured water into the door to look for cabin intrusion?
Not rejecting the possibility of the taillight being the culprit as water does strange thing...just doesn't seem right.

Re: Rear Jack Leak "really" Solved !

Not sure that is the "total" answer. We just had one in here at the shop and the floor pan weld where they meet by the tailgate came undone and had to be rewelded to fix it. They replaced all the rear carpet also.
Haven't had any problems with my SRX but I worry about the rubber grommets that protect the wires going into tailgate. I have 1 grommet that will not stay seated for anything and that leaves a big open hole for water to enter into.
