Hello everyone,
Im new to the forum, so heres goes chapter one of my new caddy!
I was getting get a new car and really wanted and eldorado becuase my moms is a 92 eldo with 290k and runs perfect. Found a couple on the internet after about a month of searching, and decided after crunching the numbers that $4500 is about what im gonna spend. So went to the bank with my mom, waiting to turn into the bank and BAMB!!!! We had just been rearended!
Young highschool girl ran into us doin like 40mph. Every one was ok, except other girls car(whole front end totaled) my moms back was a little sore but she got checked out at doctors and all is good. After seeing the damage to her car, I HAD TO GET AN ELDO! Her bumper was a little pushed in and exhaust tip was a little smashed, thats it!
Whatta safe car!
So, get $4000 from the bank the next week after accident and go shoppin!
Found one in a perfect rich, yuppy chicago suberb, Schaumburg, IL. It was at a dealer for 3500 so i figured 3985 out the door for tax title and fees.
Only scary thing was the car had high mileage, 144k, but i figured coming from a wealthy neighborhood the ex owner probably always took it in.
So after driving the car and inspecting I found the following:
Looks like a oil pan gasket leak
Service Ride Control
ABS and traction lights on
Check Emissions
A/C inop
Pass. Window will only roll UP with drivers switch, probably needs switch
pass. door exterior bottom molding missing
Right rear chrome bumper trim peice busted
12 disc cd changer missing magazine
All minor problems i figure i can fix. Walked away with the car for 3200 out the door and 800 in my pocket for repairs. On the way home the car felt a little sluggish compared to my moms 4.9L, so i figure it needed a tune up, probably why service emissions pops up.
So I wake up all cheery the next morning being a new cadillac owner
It wouldnt start!! Now the fun begins!
Replace plugs and wires, they were original, noticed it has a new coil pack (Just one) and needs the fuel rail recall. Ran alot better but still was hard starting, so now i move to the batt. Seen a power wire like 4 awg. , checked in the trunk its got all wires for a sub system in trunk already ran, good but bad! Bad because when they removed the power wire from battery to try and hide it, they stripped out poss. terminal on battery

(Damn side post batteries!) So i pulled it out and got another bolt to get a bite. Then i load tested it, and it didnt drop below 10v and its pretty cold here. so i put it back in, and started my research, Thats how I found you guys!
Checked all my fuses and relays all are good.
Checked FPR while is was running, but no RPM change when i pulled it, it has vaccum from hose and no fuel dripping out of fpr. Hooked up my fuel pressure tester after it sat for week, got 0 psi, flipped key on/off several times to prime it, only had 7 psi, so i cranked it over several time and got it running.
Only getting 25psi idling and when i rev it up, im surprised its running! So I spent a week researching fuel pump prices, what a range of prices! Dealer wants $480 for an AC Delco, was very tempted due to a lifetime warranty it had but nahhh, didnt want a cheap offbrand pump made in china named master from autozone for $240, so i kept hunting. Found one at Pep Boys for 240, its a Carter pump made by Federal Mongul, USA! with a year warr.
Checked for 12v and pump harness. Replaced the fuel pump, was pretty easy, hardest part was getting the damn filler neck off and back on, also helps when you run it to empty with only bout 2 gal in the tank. Changed the fuel filter and put a little lucas in the tank. Fire right up! Whahoooo!!!
Went out this morning with my fingers crossed, fired right up! :low:
Ive read on here you can make your coolant temp show up on DIC by changing the ICP settings, Anyone recall this page?
Thanks for all the help you guys have given! BTW Ill post up some pics when get a chance.
Thanks,
Greg
