Location of trunk pull down motor

Remove this ad
I went to close my trunk last week and it didn't pull down. I'm asuming the trunk pull down motor is bad. I have a 96 seville sls. Does anyone know where that motor is located before I tear off all the compartment trim looking for it? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Location of trunk pull down motor

you remove the trim panel on the bottom to get to it. Usually it's not the motor that goes bad, but the black paddle switch sitting on top of it. What I did to fix mine was simply drill out the rivets, take a screwdriver and scrape the carbod deposits off of the contacts inside, and then drive to ACE and buy new screws to replace the rivets. Although, some say that they get good results from wacking it with something.

Re: Location of trunk pull down motor

mine is just disabled with the motor in the down position.
it's a pretty common GM failure. I also hate the design, it caught my fingers once many years ago...

Re: Location of trunk pull down motor

I fixed mine. The black trigger thing wasn't working. Took it apart, cleaned the contacts and that worked like a charm.

Re: Location of trunk pull down motor

The fuse for the motor is also used for the radio antenna. So if the radio works then you know the fuse is good.
