95 SLS p076 CODE PRESSURE SOLENOID

Remove this ad
Have tried many times to find someone who has dealt with this and fixed it.So far no luck.Car slams into forward and reverse and throws the p076 code. You can feel the car shift roughly into second and then mellows out for the rest of the gears.Any one know if replacing this solenoid will do the trick?? The tranny has to drop for this so im hoping someone has been through this to give me some incite before i drop $ 1000 to drop the tranny?? HELP!!!!!

Re: 95 SLS p076 CODE PRESSURE SOLENOID

First off welcome to the board..You found the right place to ask questions!

That being said the pressure-solenoid code (po76) is fairly rare. Most of the electrical Tranny issues we run into are either shift-solenoid related or speed-sensor related.

I too have experianced a intermittent p076 from time to time (after my Trans. got rebuilt) It hasn't reared it's ugly head in, gosh, at least a year now (knock on wood)

Check this post out, and pay close attention to parts68..His P076 issue was the reasult of a failed PCM..I would bet my intermittent issue is also the reasult of some PCM/Electrical bugger...As I said, this code/problem is fairly rare, which leads me to believe that the solenoid is not the root cause of the problem...If it were we would see the code more often.

http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...highlight=p076 (STS 95: Hard gear shift)

I would purchase a PCM from a junkyard and see if the code goes away..then go from there.

And what are your symptoms? Other than the obvious shifting issues..

When does the light come on? Is it on all the time? Has it been intermittent, or did it come on one day and stay on?

EDIT:....For some reason I think you might have already seen the post I linked...LOL...not sure what you said, but try and "keep it real"

Re: 95 SLS p076 CODE PRESSURE SOLENOID

This code is present all the time. The hard shifts into drive and reverse happen all the time.I did buy a used PCM and it worked for about 10 min .Code was gone and the shifting was so smooth!!Then it went right back to it with the code and bad shifting. What are the odds of having bought a bad used PCM??? The dealer and tranny shops all say it is not the solenoid.I even have the new solenoid kit that i bought which has the shifters and pressure solenoid.Im afraid to drop the money into dropping the tranny for this repair and have it not work. What do you think.?

Re: 95 SLS p076 CODE PRESSURE SOLENOID

I don't know how to fix this, but I am also having the exact same problem with my 94 SLS. I thought it was the shift solenoid, but i just took everything apart to replace them and realized that they are fine. I'm pretty pissed off though. I am going to get a new PCM next. Really hoping someone posts how to fix this, because I dont see any other way than dropping the transmission

Re: 95 SLS p076 CODE PRESSURE SOLENOID

From what the first guy said the P076 code is very rare.So i ask what are the chances of 2 PCMs being bad and showing the same code??? Maybe the presssure solinoid is bad just like the PCM is saying? Dropping the tranny and being wrong is all bad . Maybe the actual wire harness where it connects to the PCM is bad? I have checked the connection before and it looked as if some of the wires had backed out of the holes that connect to the PCM.I tried pushing them back in and it didnt change a thing. That doesnt mean it isnt the problem.Check those connections, you sound a lot more capable of doing this yourself than i am so maybe you will find something.Let me know how it goes.

The chances of 2 PCM's going bad is slim to none..My guess is the PCM is not at fault. What is causing the problem? Man, it's anyones guess. I've been on these boards (Cadinfo and CadOwners) for what, like 4 years now, and have only seen p076 come up like maybe 3-4 times...It is a very rare code. In all likely hood it has something to do with the Trans. wiring, and the solenoid itself is fine. If there were some flaw in the solenoid (like we see with the shift solenoids...or ISS sensors) P076 would show up more often..but it doesn't. I believe someone on here acutally had there pressure solenoid replaced by a shop (after switcihing the pcm's)..Only to have the code set again on the way home from the shop! (try searching for p076/ po76)

Im not really sure what to tell you from here, other than to purchase a factory service manual and try and diagnose the problem using the manual, onboard diagnositics and a mulitmeter...

If your going to have the Trans rebuilt I would get the longest warranty possible...And have the work done at a reputable shop (ATRA certified). The last thing you want it to spend $2000 on a Tranny rebuild, only to have the code pop up 6 months later (or the next day!)..Then have the shop refuse to try and "re-fix" the problem.

Good luck..And PLEASE update this post if you find out anything new

Re: 95 SLS p076 CODE PRESSURE SOLENOID

I am having the exact same problem with my 95 sls. Did you ever get your problem resolved and if so what was it?

Thanks,
Shaun

Re: 95 SLS p076 CODE PRESSURE SOLENOID

I just fixed this problem on my 95 Concours. You need to know that there is no where in the diagnostic procedure to repair the transmission internally except for the pressure solinoid and or wiring. It says to R&R the trans to replace the solinoid though I was able to sneak it out without doing this. I am an automotive technician. If your capible of measuring the ohms readings at the PCM it gets real simple to start with. Remove the connector from the PCm and measure the resistance in the Pressure solinoid leads. 3-8 Ohms. if correct then measure each lead seperatly to groung. if there is no reading or it is infinite then you can bet it's the PCM. Any readings in either wire to ground means a short in the harness PCM to solinoid some where. anything else should be the Solinoid it self. I ended up replacing both because for some dumb reason I thought it was the solinoid. After I was done, same problem. I of all people should kjnow better with 30 years experiance but I've changed so many shift and TCC solinoids the PCM failure didn't even occur to me. That is untill I compaired the OHM readings between the new and old solinoid. Anyway the PCM works itself to death running this solinoid. Look there 1st...

Re: 95 SLS p076 CODE PRESSURE SOLENOID

sorry to resurrect this old thread but i have this trouble as well. the car has 76k on it and is hard shifting and throwing p076. when i first looked up the codes stored there were tons aside from p076 i have read thats a sign of a bad pcm. ive also read others have solved the p076 by replacing the pcm. i reset pcm and the hard shifting went away the car drove sooo smooth. after restarting the car the code came back. so i have 2 questions
1. wheres the pcm located and how to access it i thought i read its behind glove box but would i go at it from engine side or inside car ?
2. has anyone found a solution to this problem that seems to be common between the cars having this trouble(bad pcm, short at tranny, bad pin at pcm etc..)
thanks ryan

Re: 95 SLS p076 CODE PRESSURE SOLENOID

If anyone sees this code pop up before going in to get trans work done, clear out the codes, and change out the computer first I spent 89.dollars for a junkyard computer. And could have saved 1600. Dollars had I read this post.
