Is there an engine compartment light in a 2003 STS? I tried to locate one but could not.

Re: engine compartment light

I would assume (dangerous I know) that it is in the same place as it is on my 98...attached to the underside of the hood on the drivers side. Though if I remember correctly it only turns on when the head lights are on manually.

Re: engine compartment light

I did turn the parking lights on but it did not light up. Do the head lights need to be on? I tried to find it to change the bulb (assuming it was burned) but could not find it. My old buick was the same way that is why I new I needed to turn on the lights.

I would have said yes, they all have them, always have, but I just went and checked mine. To my shock and dismay, there is none.

Re: engine compartment light

I guess they figured that the light doesn't really do much and removed it. I guess you need to keep a flashlight in the car if you want to see anything under the hood at night. I wonder what year they removed that light.

Re: engine compartment light

To my guess, '02 and up .I also don't have a cigar lighter in my ashtray lol .As for under hood lamp may be GM thought it was one of the ways to "retrench" the costs therefore they might have dropped off it

Re: engine compartment light

My late (02/02) STS has an engine compartment light on the driver's side of the underhood brace grid. It only works when the hood is up and the parking lights are manually switched on. My guess is it was deleted at the start of the '03 model year.......July/August of '02? Curious setup in that the trunk light works "normally", i.e., when the trunk is opened, and, as all the lights do, goes out after 10 or so minutes to "save the battery".
