Most shops are trained that when they do a road force balance they generate a report for the customer. A note to ALL if you pay for this service... ASK FOR THE REPORT. It is IMPORTANT to have.
As I noted before, the machine will pass 15 pounds and less but most of us can easily feel anything over 10 pounds. So if you know that two tires are in the 10-11# range and two are in the 14-15# range you know to put the low two upfront and the bad two out back and you also know that you have some lousey tires and you are probably going to feel it.
The report also gives a before and after reading. On my report one of my tires was over 23# pounds before. While after it was only 9 (the worst of my set) I know that that tire is suspect and if the vibration returns that is the first tire I re-balance and probably replace.
As well the report also tells you how out of round the rims are, elimianting any questions about potholes and curb damage.
I would also recommend that you find a shop that will let you watch the process... It is cool to watch and it gives you a chance to ask questions...
How much rubber left on the tires? I'm betting a new set solves your problem. | my wheels are balanced now dealership did balance them 3 out of 4 were out of balance lol i got weights on them now .......
im starting tot hink its is my tires , front is worn a bit rear tires seems to be ok.
ill be looking into a new set of tires anyway due to tax return coming up.
since im in cali and it doesnt snow here and rain is a rarity most of the time i was actually loooking into kumho tires.
any recommendations ? |

1) The fact that 3 of the tires were still out of balance makes me think that the place that did your RFB did not have a clue what they were doing.... or that they did nothing. Again... This is another good reason for asking for the report. I am always suspect of a shop that doesn't give the owner a copy of the RFB report. This is part of the process... No report... No process?
2) RFB has NOTHING to do with weights that is the static or "spin" balance. In fact to do a RFB the first thing you have to do is remove all of the weights... as the balance tool first measures the rim for out of round and high spots... You can't do this measurement with weights in the way.
3) RFB then tries to match the high spot of the wheel with the softest spot on the tire (again nothing to do with weight) This is basically a one time deal, baring pothole damage to the rim, this relationship doesn't change as a tire wears... There is one "torture" machine that holds the deflated tire while it turns the rim, amazing process to watch. Shops that "re-road-force" are also suspect. Probably didn't RFB in the first place.
4) Once this is all done you spin ballance the tire and add weights...
I can't speek to your dunlops. I replaced my RSAs with Pilot A/S and my vibration went away. But my Pilots are noisy and are wearing "quickly" The most improtant thing is to buy the tires from a place that knows how to install and RFB them PROPERLY, will let you watch the process and will not sell you a tire with a RFB number of greater then 10 pounds.
Ask about this before you buy... This is a pain for the tire shop since they won't know that a tire has a RFB problem untill after the tire has been mounted.
Good Luck |

Good Luck | when it comes to rfb i dont exactly remember how many tires were out of balance i would think it was all 4.
i did look at my wheels again today and all 4 have wights on them.
do u think its too late to ask for the printout / report ? i did watch him do all 4 tires.
looks like im gonna have to find a competent tire shop that can sell me tires and rfb and balance them at the same time.
i cant just go to any shop that i find online cause honestly i wont know if they are telling me the truth so i can only hope someone from cali reads this and tells me where i can find a place by Los Angeles. |

i have also looked over the paperwork from the dealership and i never replaced transmission mout but engine mount twice. that was due to car making a creaking noise and being able to feel the car move when parked and shifing into D or any other gear etc.
im going to get the transmission looked at and im debating on getting new set of kumho tires .... but what if its not the tires ? |
