Any Suggestions For An Indash Navigation System?

Remove this ad
I just purchased a 2002 Cadillac Seville SLS. Would really like to be able to have an indash Navigation System installed. Do NOT know if there is already a satellite radio in there or not. Looking into certain criteria: bluetooth, real-time traffic, have the current buttons on the steering wheel continue to function, still have the voice prompts, and still have the "warning" sounds. BTW, the car has the manufacturer's Bose system w/ AM/FM radio, a CD, and a Cassete player.

Would like any advice I can get. Any particular systems that are perferred? The Dealers seem to not want to deal with this. Just the same, I would like to have a car with a navigation system. The indash navigations look so much nicer. Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed light on this matter.

Re: Any Suggestions For An Indash Navigation System?

i'm also looking to install an indash dvd/navigation system in my 02 STS as well. i've been thinking about the pioneer avic-d2, but the avic-d3 is coming out in a couple months and has more features including the live time traffic. i also wasn't sure if installing an aftermarket nav system would start causing problems with the electrical system and everything. anyone have success getting an aftermarket installed with no problems?

What ever either of you pick, it will have to be compatible with the way that your Bose system "drives" the speakers. If it isn't, then you are basically re-wiring most of the car.

Re: Any Suggestions For An Indash Navigation System?

Back when I was looking into this I was told they'd prefer to re-wire the speakers but there was a converter to avoid re-wire (and I assume the factory amp is by-passed). But the converter's sometimes had strange things happen.. Like I currently have subs with a converter.. if I have the bass boost up to high before I start the car ill get a steady bump from the subs until the music kicks on.

Thanks for the replies. legendary510 kindly let me know if you do put a system in. I am still looking through the web, and calling up asking questions. I still am very interested in this.

If I am thinking of the right 'bump' you must have a line level converter installed and you are getting the 'bump' because the remote wire has the subs turned on, but the radio isn't on yet... I am sure that there is some Class 2 bus adapter out there to turn the subs on with the radio, but I am not sure... Maybe thats what you have and it is slow, who knows? Just my 2 cents.
