STS Suspension fix......

Remove this ad
Since purchasing this '97 STS, I've had to deal with the constant Service Stability System message in the DIC. I thought the previous owner had the front struts replaced with passive struts becuz of the RSS codes being generated.. So..... Yesterday I got around to replacing the Coolant Tank that I busted while replacing the radiator the week before.

While trying to access the radiator drain plug, I noticed on the passenger side Strut a metal rod hanging loose. Upon closer inspection it looked like what appeared to be a linkage that was disconnected. I jacked up the entire front and took the tires, wheels off, and lo behold!! Both suspension leveling rods were disconnected and the STS STILL had the Org. Factory Active Struts!! (66K miles).

So I spent the better part of a Saturday afternoon reconnecting the leveling links... That FINALLY cleared the RSS codes!

BUT there was loads AND loads of greenish goop grease everywhere on the passenger side suspension. Turns out the inner CV boot decided to commit suicide So I purchased a NEW CV axle assembly and will be installing it NEXT weekend... Damm STS just doesn't want to give me a frigging break!!!

If any of you are getting RSS codes, I might be a good idea to get under the car and check the leveling rods.

Well, look on the bright side? The CV Boot is probably cheaper than new Active Struts...
