Smile C1763 code help!!

Remove this ad
Hi,new guy here.....recently purchased a 1998 seville sls...when the car was bought the sss light was on and the car speed was limited to 90 mph, upon further inspection i found the struts have been replaced with aftermarket, and resistors were installed to bypass the light, digging deeper i found the 2 resistors in the back had rotted off (had both codes in the rear)replace the LEFT rear resistor and all was well with that side(and code)of the car, repeated the project on the other side and it still throws the c1763 code,i have checked all the connections and wires with a multi meter and they are good, all the way up to where the wiring harness passes into the trunk, could it be the load levelr on that side is shorted out?will that throw the same code??i have NOT replaced that yet....(yes i even tested the resistor to make sure its 5 ohms)any help would be GREAT.....Thanks
(and sice then the speed limited to 90 has not come back on if thats any help)

Re: C1763 code help!!

Your C1763 relates to the RR suspension position sensor. Because the struts have been replaced and the damper solenoid circuit replaced with resistors, there is no way of knowing what other modifications have been done to the rear suspension components.

You should have a SERVICE RIDE CONTROL message on the DIC.

Inspect the suspension position sensor wiring and connector. Check the link between the sensor and the control arm and compare the installation to the opposite side.

Disconnect the mechanical link from the sensor. You should see a smooth resistance change when moving the sensor arm through the travel limits; Ohmmeter on sensor pins A (or C) and B.

Re: C1763 code help!!

This code has been popping up intermittently for the last 12 months for me. Now it is finally constant, everyday, every start up. I checked the plugs on the unit itself and the body harness, it looks completely clean. So I ordered a new sensor from gmotors.com, it is ~$120 shipped. better than $180 from my local dealer!

I certainly there is something else not wrong and that the sensor fixes this darn code, since it is the only RSS code that comes up.

Hopefully it'll be here by Friday.

Re: C1763 code help!!

Posting a follow up:

My new RR Ride Height Sensor arrived on Monday. Installed today. On the new sensor, the arm when pulled down will spring back to the top most position when you hold it in your hand...the old one does not do this at all, no spring action.

Installed and code is gone.

Use a 10mm deep well socket to remove the one nut, slide the out the old sensor, unplug and that's basically it.

Re: C1763 code help!!

hah i found a code list.

B1009 HEAT SWITCH SHORT TO GROUND

C1769 PARK BRAKE APPLY SWITCH CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND

these are the two codes being displayed plus service suspension system banner. what would cause these three trouble codes to pop up. i tried to clear them, but no luck they both say current.seems pretty odd for these three things to short at the same time..
