| | Cadillac Owners Fanatic | | | | | Steering Wheel Buttons 98 STS I have a 1998 STS Seville. There is a factory phone built into the car with buttons from the phone built into the steering wheel in place of the normal temp buttons. I was wondering how hard it would be to change these phone buttons to the normal temp buttons. I dont use the phone so it would be nice to use the temp buttons. |

I was looking for one too. I have all the parts, just missing the headset. I am put the phone in instead if we can't find something else to do with the steering wheel buttons. |

| | Cadillac Owners Connoisseur | | | | | Re: Steering Wheel Buttons 98 STS You can install the temp buttons, but you're going to have to find a way to get them to work the HVAC system. It may have totally different wiring or it may have to be programmed by the dealer with a Tech2 to get it to work. |

But it is in the override section of the instrument panel cluster, in your FSM. I have the phone installed --it has Onstar buttons and since I have been told I can't use it without ONstar, I disabled it by telling it the phone was not installed. They automatically defaulted to HVAC controls (but the buttons have phone labels instead of fan and temperature).
I'd be interested to see if cas2 gets a carrier to support it, I'd like to use it since it has hands-free built in. |

Would it be possible to jot down the procedure and button sequence for disabling (and then re-enabling) the phone?
This would be awesome, I have a 98 Concours, but I would imagine the sequence would be similar. I read up and searched, all I found was IPC override, Option E. Is that all we need to do?
TY in advance

| | Cadillac Owners Fanatic | | | | | Re: Steering Wheel Buttons 98 STS mtflight, this is helpful and I thank you. From what I see, I need to change Option C from celular phone installed -- 16, that part I got. What do i change it too?
I didn't see an entertainment section... IPD05 This code displays the value (A/D count) of the steering wheel control switches at the IPC connector C2 terminal B11. Refer to Entertainment Section in order to determine which one of the 8 functions is requested. The value may range from 0-255.

What do i change it too? | If you don't want the car to know the phone is installed, you would subtract 16 from the total on that option.
If you installed it but your car does not know it's there, you would add 16 to Option C count.
You have to be very careful, not to change it to say 17 instead of 16, or you would lose your IPC and need to get a new one. |

| | Cadillac Owners Fanatic | | | | | Re: Steering Wheel Buttons 98 STS I got it, and it works perfect, so cool! The Temp control and fan control work perfectly, right from the wheel.
Now, using that same logic, I changed Option E to 127 and then to 111. It was at 43, +64 for coolant temp, + 16 for tach, + 4 for mph. At 127, I got everything (including the MPH on the DIC) except the tach. My understanding is the tachometer (digital) doesn't work on my year. Oh well...
So, it is now at 111. I didn't see anything smoking and the car started again with no codes, so is it safe to say I didn't fry my IPC? I did everything by the book.
Will be nice to have digital MPH, I miss that from my 94 Concours.
TY again |
