Re: road force balance

Hmm, maybe I'll have to get mine done and see if it makes a difference when I get new tires in late October before the snow flies! woo hoo!

Does your car have the dreaded 60-75 shimmy? If so, did the new strut mounts help at all. I was thinking of changing mine (didn't do it when I replaced struts) as they seem a bit "loose".

Re: road force balance

Don,

I have never had the dreaded 60-75 shimmy. only shimmy I ever had was caused by the parking brake not actually releasing the caliper from the rotor all the way when I first purchased the car.

I was hoping the new strut mounts & rubber bushings on the strut spring were the cause of my squeak, they sadly were not...that's in another thread.

Re: road force balance

Mine had the shimmy and I can testify that

Road Force Balancing + Quality Tires = Smooth ride (at all speeds)

If 65-75 MPH shake is your problem (mine shaked at EXACTLY 68 MPH) Hunter Balancing is the key...

Tell the balancer you want THE BEST BALANCE possible... The hunter machine will "pass" a tire/wheel combo even though it could be "balanced" better... Tell the technician that you need Road-force numbers in the SINGLE digits.

PS the squeak is the rubber bushing around the control arm... Jack up one corner at a time (tilt the car) remove the wheel and lube the inside of the bushing with white grease... That will solve the squeak... (at least it did on mine)

Re: road force balance

I have a small vibration at about 65. New tires Pirelli PZero Nero M&S and a Hunter Road Force balancing coming next week.

Re: road force balance

Is there a site that tells who might have a hunter machine in my area?

Re: road force balance

Just checked all over the entire site, is there a quicker way than e-mailing someone to ask them?

Oops. Try this one. I'll delete the other one. That was to buy a Hunter machine.

Re: road force balance

Awesome! Maybe one of the shops with a straight trak machine can take care of my drift problem. Then I can take it back to Sears and try for a refund on their crappy alignment job!

Same problem here. I am taking it to the Dealership tomorrow. Last time I had it in for an oil change I complained about shaking and they were no help - They checked and then said everything was good. I am going to be firm and if I drive outta there with the bloody car that can be used to mix paint I am going to plant my foot in someone's ass.

I am going to tell them to break the bead, remove all the old attempts at their balancing and then start from scratch and make sure it is right. RF testing sounds like something great to have them try. If they give me a hard time I will remind them just how much money I drop at their dealership all the time and the fact that my cadillac badge is good enough for them to charge me premium on everything, I expect premium service.

I will also have them align the wheels too, just for good measure. I am thinking some of my problems may be from shoddy work in that department last it was done.

Sorry for the rant, just something I have been dealing with for too long. I swear the passenger seat looks like the one from the movie Contact in the sphere sometimes it shakes so bad.

I found a link by using a Mississauga postal code. Gave me a few names and contacts for reps around the area.
Hope it helps you.
And if it does please post back. Am sure there are more than a few of us that may need to know as well....

Re: road force balance

I had the RFB done on mine a few months ago. HUGE improvement...everybody should do it. I checked a ton of tire shops and none could do it. I called the dealer to schedule it and the service writer (a girl) had no idea what I was talking about. I said just write it down and I'll explain it when I drop it off. Luckely I got a guy when I dropped it off and he knew what I wanted. He said "it's $30 per tire, are you sure you want it" I said just do it. The car drives so much better since getting it done!

Re: road force balance

The dealer I went to said they on-car balance and it is just as good as RFB. Anyone able to comment on this?
