You could go to the Hunter site :
http://www.gsp9700.com/pub/features/how.cfm

It explains what and why road force balancing is different.
Sure everyone is going to say they are better or at least comparable. Thats the magic of business and such.......
But when it comes down to it the facts are there. Any one can say anything, but the truth is really in the pudding. Actual facts and statistics dont lie.
Hunter is not just spinning and attaching weights.
Just read it.....it explains the process.

And if someone says they have a machine that does the same.......then take notes with you from the Hunter site.

Ask them right out if there balancing does the same.
If they come "Even Come Close" to saying "that doesnt matter" or "thats not necessary", then tell them to shove it.
Or better yet, dont say anything at all and just leave; With the knowledge that you havent wasted money at a place that is not only ill equipped, but also ignorant as to what they do.

Or just plain scammers for that matter. Those that will lie to any one in the hopes that they dont know better.

GM has even said them selves to Road Force Balance to correct shake/shimmy. Im pretty sure of that. Not 100% sure, but still pretty damned sure.
I really do believe that there has even been a GM bulletin put out specifying that.
Sounds to me that your dealing with a dealer that doesnt care about you......Just lookin at your wallet and hopein to clean it out over and over again.

Re: road force balance

I don't know first hand about directives from GM to their dealers, but prior to purchase my 2002 SLS (which the seller said had a slight shimmy due to unevenly worn front tires) I called the service writer whom I deal with at our local Cadillac dealer and he told me that knew of the problem and the agency had the road force balancing equipment and that the procedure cured the problem. After purchasing the car I put a new set of Michelins on which were balanced conventionally by the tire shop and have experienced no shimmy at any speed with the car.

Re: road force balance

Ive heard of similar applications used in the past on Machine Tools.
IE. Grinding Machines.
But even now, the most up to date brand new CNC Universal Grinders dont come with that.
I have to wonder if there is a reason why.

Also makes me wonder as to why the home page in the link, does not specifically mention the application as being recommended for Current Year Automobiles.
It goes on about:

"Tractor Trailers and large RV's need Dyna BeadsŪ"
" Mudders, Rock Crawlers and Oversize Tire Owners need Dyna BeadsŪ"
"Motorcycles ride s-m-o-o-t-h with Dyna BeadsŪ"
And even....
"Antique and Classic Car owners have discovered Dyna BeadsŪ"

But not once is there a mention as to "Current Car Makes And Models", and there so called revolutionary dyna beads ????
You really have to ask yourself ?? Why they would neglect to mention the one vehicle that every licensed driver would/does own ?
It really does seem odd that they neglect to specifically target the largest and most obvious market for there automotive product ??

Re: road force balance

sorry to report late on this thread but i had the road force balance done. went to hunter site and located a tom's tire right down the road that had the machine. 12 bucks per tire and an hour later and the shimmy is completely gone. i was searching for any solution possible when i came across the dynabeads site. but thanks to this site i didn't have to do anything drastic like tie rods, control arms, wheel bearings. this site really is a lifesaver. now if i can just get my audio system figured out i'll be thuroughly pleased.

Re: road force balance

Well i just want to add that the RFB didn't do crap for my car. I had the front tires done, and it was great the first time i went out on the highway last week. But then i noticed that when i had a passanger in my car last night the shaking came back around 65 and up to 75. Well after i dropped that person off and headed back onto the highway, the friggin shaking was back again the whole ride home. So i'm alittle pissed that the RFB didn't do anything for my problem. I might just have to buy new tires and start from there.

What were your before and after RFB numbers? If the place where you had it done, did it right, they gave you a report that tells you the before and after RFB "pounds"... replace tires with numbers over 10 pounds.

Re: road force balance

Which tire...was 14/10 ??

If he did it right (or at all) you should have a report that tells you each corner the before and after number for each wheel tire combo... and he should have put the best two up front...

You should have 8 numbers... not two.
