How tough is it to replace the front motor mount on an '03 STS? The dealer is quoting me $600.
Is this realistic?
Any help is appreciated. |

| | Cadillac Owners Fanatic | | | | | Re: How hard is it to replace front motor mount on '03 STS? that sounds realistic. From what i have heard, you need to actually lift the motor.
You may want to consider having all the motor/trans mounts replaced while the motor has been lifted. |

Using tools that most guys have in the average garage, on the ground with a floor jack and some ramps... a lot harder.
We charge for the mount and about 300-400 dollars labor at this store.
That's probably a pretty standard price for a dealership. |

Do you know the part number for the motor mounts? I have an anchor number 2837 for right one and anchor number 2893 for the left one but I can not find the transmission mount! |

I'm pretty sure 2837 is the tranny mount..... You might want to double check on that one though.. I do know that a couple of them are identicle.
EDIT: Wait, I was thinking about my engine when I was saying that... I'm am not sure at all if 03 is like that. |

I have yet to see one of the side mounts break. |

So is it safe to that if I have a broken motor mount, that it is most probably the front right one? It is noticable when you give it a little gas from a stop. Has anyone seen any urethane ones? Or billet with urethane? 03 STS -Ken |

Don't worry too much about it... I've been driving my eldo for about 15-20 thousand miles (maybe more) with at least two shot motor mounts and I've had no problems occur because of it. Of course I have the "Kick" when I gas it, but I've learned to control the kick so you barely even feel it. |

You mean like this one
It's from RSM racing. Not sure if they still sell it, or are even in business anymore. Rumor was they had some financial, and legal trouble over some "pcm software tuning". Not quite sure what happened with that, but this mount has been fantastic since I installed it. Almost 40k HARD miles on it, with not a single problem. A little bit better response too, since it doesn't flex as much as the stock hydraulic unit, and not much added vibration either (which is nice, since most mounts like this do transfer more).
Anyway, the mount itself if I recall correctly, was just over $300 after shipping. There was no labor since I installed it myself at school. With a lift, and a bunch of tools, it took about an hour and a half.
...I just checked what used to be their website before posting this, and sure enough, they are outa business. Some company called "Z-Spec" or some crap bought what was left of them out I guess. At least they sell a few of RSM's products. Unfortunately it looks as if they dumped all the caddy products except for the xlr....which doesn't help us. |

I searched the forums a couple weeks ago, and noticed your mount in another thread. After writing and calling RSM, now Z-SPEC, they wrote back "The mounts have been discontinued because the poly gave too much engine vibration. Regards Z-Spec Inc". All well, worth a shot. I am a spirited driver, and would prefer a mount like the one you previously purchased. Perhaps I will make one myself, but most likely just get a replacement one. GM's replacment is $85 delivered from gmpartsdirect, or I can get a lifetime limited warraty one from O'Reilly Auto Parts for $70.99. It appears to be manufactured by Anchor and looks to be hydraulic filled. Anyone tried any other brands? Gotta get one put in soon so I can make sure that carbon doesn't build up! |

That way, if the mount goes, like they are known for, then just replace it for no charge. |

Still might be worth saving the scratch on the mount if it ever fails again.
Technically the "front" mount is the "left" engine mount since it bolts to the left bank of the engine.
It can be confusing because on some models there is an additional mount that is on the right side of the car, but the front of the engine. |

I have not been able to look while the wife brake-torques the engine to verify which one has failed. I assume it is that one. Also, should I also look at replacing the trans mount that's now picking up the extra strain. I have really babied it since blowing the mount. I know exactly when I did it. That's what I get for spirited driving! | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
