Yes, those break quite often.
We just call it the "front" motor mount in the shop and everyone knows what we are talking about.
On some cars there is a bulletin to also install a heat shield to help prolong the life of the new mount. It's close to the exhaust manifold so it's supposed to keep the heat off of it from the manifold. Time will tell if it works.
That is primarily for Deville though.

I just did mine on my 00 SLS. The part from Autozone was 103 with tax and a local shop did the labor for $100. No big deal.

Question Re: How hard is it to replace front motor mount on '03 STS?

Okay, I read through this whole thread and I'm a bit confused on the terminology ...which mount is the one that commonly fails? I know it's the one that is located front, center, behind the radiator, but what's the part #?

25710672 is the front engine mount.
25696073 is the center engine mount.

I was at the dealer last week and they discovered the mount (located front, center, behind the radiator) on my 99 STS was broken.....

I greatly appreciate the help.

Re: How hard is it to replace front motor mount on '03 STS?

the front engine mount is the culprit, (left)......is it leaking oil or is there a sevear bump when shifting between P, R, D?????At any rate get it replaced it causes damage to other mounts and if you really let it go could cause problems in shift adapts in trans....

It is rather easy to replace...jack up on unibody frame rail both sides, remove both front bolts on subframe it will drop, remove 18 mm on engine mount, lower subframe even more, remove trans to engine brace (just a little bar), and 3 remaining bolts on engine mount, pull it down let top end slide out then worm the rest out prying down on lower subframe...replace mount reinstall, if you have ride hieght sensors reattach links...

So is that Part #: 25710672, just trying to be sure before I order it from gmpartsdirect. The only symptom of the broken mount is a knock that I heard under heard accleration. No leaking oil. No bump when shifting.

Re: How hard is it to replace front motor mount on '03 STS?

does it feel or sound like it is righ under you or towards middle of car???? if it is there is a brace there that the exhaust hits because the mount is starting to fail you can bend the brace down for temp fix..I am pulling up this part # from GM 25696073.

Re: How hard is it to replace front motor mount on '03 STS?

I am in the process of doing this and still can't get to the bolt(s) on the top of the mount. I have already dropped the cradle and removed all the bolts on the engine mount bracket except for the ones bolting to the block. Would this make it easier?

Re: How hard is it to replace front motor mount on '03 STS?

Sometimes the upper bolts are more easily accessed from above, you might find it beneficial to remove the cooling fan(s) for access.
I have some tools that I bought that allow me to get them from underneath easily but they can be a challenge without dropping some serious bucks on what you need. The fans are usually easy to get out but you may have to unhook the trans cooler line and slide the fans out that way for enough room to work.

Re: How hard is it to replace front motor mount on '03 STS?

I got the upper bolts off with a 24" extension and a universal joint. It was tedious work, but easier that reaching your hand all the way up there....of course my car was still hot since I had just finished driving it. If it's cool, it's easier to do without burning one's self.

Re: How hard is it to replace front motor mount on '03 STS?

The one on my DTS cost me $412. Don't bother fixing it. It's only going to brake again. Unless you're going to replace it with something solid you're wasting your time and money.

Re: How hard is it to replace front motor mount on '03 STS?

Mine isn't going to break again...EVER! Of course the only company who maid it doesn't anymore, so I guess that's it. Those hydraulic mounts don't last too long if you run the car hard...which is a shame.

Re: How hard is it to replace front motor mount on '03 STS?

Not that it will help most of you, but for Deville, they released a heat shield to help protect the mount from the heat at the nearby exhaust pipe.
The part number is 15804790 but it is not designed to fit Seville.

Do you have a gut feeling that part would make a reasonable starting point to fabricate a heat shield for a Seville?

Re: How hard is it to replace front motor mount on '03 STS?

Off the top of my head I don't recall the main difference between the two.
If I get one in I will try to take a look, don't hold it against me if I forget.

I understand the forget part. The 2nd thing to fail is the memory. And I can't remember what the 1st thing was.
