We just call it the "front" motor mount in the shop and everyone knows what we are talking about.
On some cars there is a bulletin to also install a heat shield to help prolong the life of the new mount. It's close to the exhaust manifold so it's supposed to keep the heat off of it from the manifold. Time will tell if it works.
That is primarily for Deville though. |

Okay, I read through this whole thread and I'm a bit confused on the terminology ...which mount is the one that commonly fails? I know it's the one that is located front, center, behind the radiator, but what's the part #?
25710672 is the front engine mount.
25696073 is the center engine mount.
I was at the dealer last week and they discovered the mount (located front, center, behind the radiator) on my 99 STS was broken.....
I greatly appreciate the help. |

It is rather easy to replace...jack up on unibody frame rail both sides, remove both front bolts on subframe it will drop, remove 18 mm on engine mount, lower subframe even more, remove trans to engine brace (just a little bar), and 3 remaining bolts on engine mount, pull it down let top end slide out then worm the rest out prying down on lower subframe...replace mount reinstall, if you have ride hieght sensors reattach links...

The only symptom of the broken mount is a knock that I heard under heard accleration. No leaking oil. No bump when shifting. |

I am in the process of doing this and still can't get to the bolt(s) on the top of the mount. I have already dropped the cradle and removed all the bolts on the engine mount bracket except for the ones bolting to the block. Would this make it easier? |

I have some tools that I bought that allow me to get them from underneath easily but they can be a challenge without dropping some serious bucks on what you need. The fans are usually easy to get out but you may have to unhook the trans cooler line and slide the fans out that way for enough room to work. |

I got the upper bolts off with a 24" extension and a universal joint. It was tedious work, but easier that reaching your hand all the way up there....of course my car was still hot since I had just finished driving it. If it's cool, it's easier to do without burning one's self. |

The one on my DTS cost me $412. Don't bother fixing it. It's only going to brake again. Unless you're going to replace it with something solid you're wasting your time and money.

Mine isn't going to break again...EVER! Of course the only company who maid it doesn't anymore, so I guess that's it. Those hydraulic mounts don't last too long if you run the car hard...which is a shame. |

Not that it will help most of you, but for Deville, they released a heat shield to help protect the mount from the heat at the nearby exhaust pipe.
The part number is 15804790 but it is not designed to fit Seville. |

If I get one in I will try to take a look, don't hold it against me if I forget. |
