    Change serpentine belt

I have a noise alternator i believe, kind of a moaning sound, or a bad ac compressor. I was told to take the belt off and spin the compressor and wiggle it to diagnose the problem. Any advice

Take a 1/4 inch drive breaker bar to that square hole in the tensioner, and pull the handle towards the front of the car to take the load off the belt. Then while holding the breaker bar in that position take the belt off of the power steering pump pulley first before taking out the breaker bar.

Use a 1/2" breaker bar on the serpentine belt tensioner. 1/4" is for the water pump drive belt tensioner

How difficult is it to change the belt. Is it extemely tight where ones hands are going to get torn up like on my wife's car.

Not all that bad - but tight, yes. Flashlight, socket wrench breaker bar to lever the tensioner. Make sure the grooved belt side is properly set into the grooved pulleys.

Get a length of copper water pipe. Flatten the end and bend it into an L. Use it to get into the tight spaces and save your hands. Might also get at some of the lower pulley's through the well well.

Well, retiredSFC paid $142 to replace belt. Shop did a bunch of other stuff so it was not the only reason it was in shop. That is for part and install. And 148 for tensioner and install. A belt wears and the tensioner wears. Such is life

    Seriously, it's easy. A 15 minute job.

I pulled the tensioner out for extra room for routing.
