Electrical Systems Will Restart when going 60

Remove this ad
I own a 95 STS that I've driven and taken care of for over 30k. Yet, I noticed that when I was driving about 30 minutes of 75mph, in 110 degree weather, the electrical systems, atleast those of the dash (including cd player, possibly even the suspension?) restarted as I was going down the road. The engine didnt studder, but the dash all restarted, the speedo jumped up to 140 then came back down like it does when you start the car. well I took note of it when it happened a couple days ago. Then yesterday I drove it up to the lake, and on the hour drive it seemed to do it every 5 minutes. On the way home it was about as frequent, yet the electrical systems would also restart when I put the high beams on.. The lights wouldn't studder though, just the dash, maybe the suspension, and maybe some other things that I'm unaware of. I was thinking that it could be a bad ground of the wire cluster that's going to the dash? I really don't have much of a clue, maybe the voltage regulator? Alternator? Any help would be great.

Try cleaning the battery cables and battery connections.

Re: Electrical Systems Will Restart when going 60

I'm thinking so too, i just drove it around town with everything off, and then when I turned on my system and lights, it started pulling that crap, you dont think it could be the alternator? When I turn the key off, everything turns right off, the cd/lights etc.., dont stay on like they usually do. Thanks guys

Re: Electrical Systems Will Restart when going 60

I had similar experience a year or so ago on my 94 ETC, turned out that weather/temp changes loosened my neg battery cable, might as well clean it while your under the hood anyway.
good luck
