| | Cadillac Owners Member | | | | | Temp Gauge Greetings,
I just bought a 2003 Cadillac SLS with 27,000 miles. Sometimes sitting in traffic on a warm day, the temp gauge goes alittle over the halfway point (normal operation temp) but goes back to the halfway point once the car starts moving again. Is this considered normal? Just want to make sure.
TIA! |

Congrats on the SLS! |

Congrats on the SLS! | I have yet to see mine move past 12:00, but I agree, nothing to worry about. |

One tick past it covers 205 to about 215. Two ticks, about halfway between the mid point aind the next gauge line, I've only seen once - idling with the AC on with ambient temp around 85 - the DIC read 222. I have never seen it hit then next gauge line. As soon as I started moving, it fell right down again to hover between 197 and 201.
No worries, mate.

Usually when I get off the highway and get stopped at a light or somehtign right after. As soon as I start moving and air flows over the radiatior, it cools right back down. |

When you mention the "ticks," are you talking about the white marks??? The way I understand your post, when you say on tick, you mean the next white mark to the right of the midpoint, and two ticks is the 2nd white mark to the right of midpoint. Three marks past the midpoint, you start getting into the red zone. I'm only asking b/c I wanted to double check what you had posted about the temps. Yesterday, I had to drive from Phoenix to Tuscon and the temp outside was 107. I was driving 80mph with the a/c on and for a good 1/2 hour the temp gauge was 2 white marks past the midpoint. Based on what I read from your post, that equates to 222 or so. Am I correct??? |

Thanks for the info on temps. Can we all set our DIC to display temp or is this something common only to certain vehcles. I have a 2000 Seville STS and might like to set it up like you have it if that's a possibility. |

My bad - I should have explained it clearer. I defined a "TICK" as one needle's width. So at the midpoint on the gauge, straight-up, 12 o'clock high, that's the exact center, and as I mentioned, seems to cover about 190 to 205 deg... when the needle moves one-needle's-width past the mid point, that's ONE tick : 205-212 or so..two is Two Ticks, etc. On my gauge, the next MARK on the gauge is about 3 to 4 needle's width's away - and I've never even seen it hit that first mark after 12 o'clock high...
Sorry for the confusion. Have attached pic for perhaps more enlightenment...

I did mine from a posting made here about 6-8 months ago, I don't recall who or exactly when. Do a search for "DIC COOLANT" or something similar, and you should find it. It involves changing the seed value for a number that is the key to what gets displayed in the DIC... not at all hard, just have to follow each step.
Hope this helps. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
