The eldo is running at about 212 (on average). Problem?
I don't know but I think I'll test the pH. If it's too acidic I need more coolant, and if it's too basic I need more water. Hopefully this correction will help the eldo run a little cooler. |

Doesn't the anti-corrosive property of coolant work by inhibiting the acidity of the mixture? Also, one of the test strip producers claims that they work the same for green stuff and for dex-cool, or do you think this is just sales talk? |

We have heard about the voltmeter test but the Guru advised against it, though I no longer remember the reason. I do know that the prefered method is with a refractometer. |

Stuck in traffic with the a/c on ? Perfectly normal.
Cruising down the Interstate at 65 with the a/c on ? Worrisome.

I guess GM doesn't want us to see the real numbers...
On my previous 94 and current 98 I've seen the temps reach 245F on the hottest days (110F+) climbing long grades across the SW desert and sitting in traffic with the A/C off. These engines just run hot. |

I've always thought that running a higher percentage of water will make the engine run a bit cooler, but you sacrifice the freezing point of the mixture.
As far as hot running aluminum engines, I use this stuff from Red Line called Water Wetter and it really makes a difference in making the engine run cooler, and it's safe for use with Dex-Cool antifreeze. It was expalined to me it works by treating the metal in the heads and block so the antifreeze makes better 'contact' with the metal thus pulling away the heat much more efficiently from hot surfaces. I originally started using it in my '87 Corvette with aluminum heads and it made the engine run at least 10 - 15 degrees cooler. As an aside, I also think their fuel system cleaner is the best I've ever used. Check out the Red Line website for more info. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
