With all engines, there are always going to be some bad, and some good. North*'s are known for leaks, on SOME, and for burning oil others, or both I guess. From everything I've read, the N* was designed to burn some oil through its cycles. As far as leaks are concerned, those who do have leaks on there N*'s are very minor, sorta like a a few drips a day leak; which doesn't worry most who have it. My 97 ETC burns oil, I suppose more than necessary, because Im ON the Engine 70% of the time, and take it easy 30%. Either way, new, fresh oil is introduced to the crankcase keeps the engine cleaner over an indefinite period of time. I was told by a technician at Cadillac that most of the N*'s with the problems are those who are owned by older individuals, or shall I say, older ladies. He stressed the importance of WOT, atleast once a day, saying in his words (I think the N*'s like to be pounded on) NO JOKE! Since I already drive my N* aggressively, It was not new news to me, nor will it alter my driving habits. Either way, and reiterating my first post, the N* is one of the best engines ever designed in the world. It has won numerous awards and been praised time and time again as a miraculous powerplant. Obviously, my experiences will differ from others, but at the same time, many many people, will feel exactly how I do when it comes to the power, grace, and the sheer brute force of the N* Engine. Id' say, IMHO, that the N* ETC 300HP 300 FT LBS TORQ, is faster than 80% of the cars on the road. Good luck with urs!
