Code C1711 on 98 STS - Page 2

!!!!WHO'S YER DADDY!!! Its fixed!!! It was what Yves had described, a 1k resistor had died. I replaced it and bingo, yee hah doogy! I took a picture of the circuit board so I can identify the offender and post it. I will follow up on that this week when I am able to download the picture. And now for the 'Oscar' bit - I would like to thank Yves for pointing out the information and JimD for following up with the references. Nuff said, its time for an Englishman to hit Toronto and get drunk as a monkey!

I was the same lucky as you slogger when I got fixed this error. To be honest, it was more luck then brain power.
Anyway, post the pictures....

@iametarq: Kind of funny our avatar. I had exaxtly the same fleed. 96 SebringJXi and a 98 STS.
About 4 weeks ago I sold the sebring.

Sorry for the delay, I had to get a cable to download the images off my phone. So, hopefully the pictures will be of use to others. The images show the circuit board connector side down. The offending resistor is about 1mm square in size and is black. Under a magnifying glass you will see the numbers 102 on top of the resistor. This means (for what its worth) ten to the power of two which is 1,000 which is 1k ohms. It is on the top left side of the pcb under a row of three solder joints. On the images you will see a pointer right on the resistor. If you are going to repair this yourself, you will need to use a fine tip soldering iron so as not to wreck the component and damage the multi layer circuit board. If anyone needs further information please let me know.

Where is the CVRSS module located? I'm trying to pin down a C1711 code myself.

The module on my '98 STS is located behind the rear seat. There are 2 modules behind the seat and the CVRSS is the top one. You access it by removing the liner in the trunk.

I've been getting this error and originally thought it was the damper but when I took it to the dealership to verify, they said I needed a new module. They wanted $2,200 + labour to replace it. Needless to say I pulled back out of the dealership and decided to see if anyone on the forum here had found a repair for this.

This thread has saved me about $2,197.05. The resistor cost me $2.95 (I had to buy a pack of 5) and the process took about an hour to complete. I also needed a work area magnifier as the component is very hard to see and the connection is very difficult to make. I would suggest anyone doing this also spend a few cents for some rubber shrink wrap. Once you solder the risistor in place, it is very close to other connections and you will want to ensure that it does not make unwanted contact by wrapping it after it is installed.

Hi

In my case problem with 84/C1711 it was also resistor in CVRSS module. I cant imagine what potential costs I could have without this post you made.

And in addition to this information my car sometimes was reporting error 84 together with 113 and sometimes 113 only.

Awesome!!! Just went through and checked why my 98 STS was throwing this code and traced it to the bad resistor in the module. Quick trip to Radioshack $1.00 in gas, $1.06 for 5 Resistors, $.01 roughly for solder and wire I had laying around. Less than an hour total of my time. Low and behold after clearing codes the damn thing is fixed!!!! You guys rock! Thanks for the info and pictures. I thought I was gonna need million dollar struts and I spent roughly $2.07. Time to hit the interstate and see how fast she goes now, LoL. Just kidding!
