Question Cabin air filter stuck!

I removed the cabin air filters from my 2000 STS. They were LOADED with dirt, leaves, bugs, etc. 73k miles made them really gross!
Anyways, when I installed the first new filter (Fram with carbon in it), it popped up too far, and now I can't get it out, or down past a certain point. I tried manuvering it with a long screwdriver, but got nowhere with that!
Any ideas on how to get that sucker out of there?
For now I just sealed the door back up. The vents blow like never before, but I'd still like to get the filter back out and put some new ones in!

Re: Cabin air filter stuck!

Heh heh, yeah I've heard stories about those things. I might try one of those claw things (that I refer to as "the grabby thing.")

One of these things... If you don't already have one get one, they come in handy a LOT, especially if you're a butterfingers like I am.

Re: Cabin air filter stuck!

LOL, thanks! I'll have to try that! I might just leave the sucker in there and not use filters.

Re: Cabin air filter stuck!

I would remove the little white cover, and drive around on the bumpiest road in your area. That may be enough to get it to drop down.

They are about $35 from rockauto. They come in 3 segments that interlock and are stacked vertically. It is located down by the accelerator. They are a PITA to change.

HELP!!! STuck Cabin Air Filter!

I have a 2002 STS with a MAJOR PROBLEM. When removing the 3 cabin filters, the THIRD one did NOT come out and got stuck up in the chamber! I was almost able to touch the filter with my finger UNTIL I took the advice on this forum to use a clothes hanger to try and remove it from the jammed location. NOW, the filter is up in the bowels of the Cabin filter chamber and I cannot even feel where it is. DOES ANYONE know another access point to that chamber? If I removed the blower motor assembly, would I be able to reach into the chamber and get access to the PITA filter that got stuck? If not, is there a Cadillac Tech that can recommend on how I can access the cabin chamber a different way in order to get this filter out of its hiding space?

PLEEEEEEEEEEASE HELP!

Thanks,

Mike
